Interesting study findings. Feral hogs prefer unmanaged/unburned lands. Prescribed fire reduces feral hog use.

That makes sense fire kills off most of the insects, reptiles and rodents feral hogs eat and the ash would likely irritate their sinuses and make their food alkaline tasting.

The gist of that NDA article is prescribed fire reduces mid-level cover which feral hogs like.

But, trust me on this.....hogs do just fine in burned southern timberlands.

I agree but it is a bit of insight that I've noticed. Pigs like the thick stuff as their core area. The article just picks up on some of the why.

Prescribed fire ain't going to slow down pigs by much if at all but hey with pigs every little bit helps.
