What's everyone like for paint bushes ? Painting the boat and I'm getting sick of trying to get the quality they want with these cheap chip brushes. Found some nice ones that I'm hording ( but the other guys keep finding them and messing them up smirk ) , and I'll tell you , world of difference there like woodster or something can't read the names anymore on them ,but I decided to just buy some and get a lil lock box when I go home . So , suggestions?

for a good job use camel hair brushes. alittle pricey but good. clean them when you are done they will last along time.

Chip brushes are for stain samples and BBQ sauce

To be thrown away after a few minutes of use

Wooster makes decent brushes
Purdy - good
Corona - good

Chip brush not good

What AG said. And if you are painting a fiberglass boat, I would assume you are using epoxy. That would actually dissolve those brushes you showed in your picture.
If you are using oil-based enamel, (or epoxy), you want a natural bristle brush.
If water-based enamel, you want synthetic bristles.
DO NOT USE LATEX on a boat, period.

Just doing what I want now.

As AG and others above have said. Wooster and Purdy are my personal favorites for common latex and oil based paints. I usually prefer the soft bristle Purdy's for most of my projects.

I've been trying explain this to the wheel house guys but ...yeah , it's a paint brush , use it , it'll work...then I get a 10min critique on how crappy it looks . Dosnt help didn't seem the idea of taking. Care of brushes really resonates so tired I'm just buying my own and keeping them locked up tight

Wooster Pro is the way to go. Home Depot carries them. Make sure to get a good lintless sleeve too if you decide to break out a roller.
As mentioned above, a sprayer is the way to go, I use Graco, but you'd better know how to mask a place off first.

Ask my captain, thats all I can tell you, eveytime I've asked for better brushes i just get a blank look and " well we have plenty of them we don't need anymore" referring to all them chip brushes. Just gotta do XYZ and they will work....no they don't . Idk if there just trying to stay under budget or what but I'm sick of arguing . I'll just buy my own , have done the same at a few jobs , it's whatever to me at this point .

We actually have two of them , and the boat has an internal air compressor system so we could they refuse to let use spray the outside of the boat because..... reasons . Most of the large line haul river boats do it because they don't have the time do hand paint and I've got experience painting cars with them but anytime I've brought it up I just get told no we're gonna take our time and do it the right way..and when I ask why we couldn't just do a base coat of white over everything then go back and cut in the other colors by hand ..yeaahhhhh that conversation didn't go anywhere. Just do what I'm told

I wouldn't spend my own money for anything for work....use what they give you and point to the brushes if you get critiqued.....it's a friggin work barge, not the Sistine chapel....

Alrighty got some Wooster in my Amazon cart , anything special y'all do as far as cleaning them ? I've just been keeping them in a punt cup of thinner and that in a big Ziploc bag. Also been wiping the handles down with WD40 to help with he paint build up

Been there done that got the Tshirt and honestly for me it's just not worth the hassle or the mind numbing meeting where I get walked around everything paint drip and brush line gets pointed out and then I gotta hear about pride in my work ... There a reason I've put in for a transfer.

I honestly don't mind buying my own gear , I prefer it most times , don't help since I'm so off sized stuff like gloves , boots ect usually don't fit me and end up being more of a pain trying to use then it's worth.

It's like the old factory job I had where I did alopt of welding, coworker would get mad at me and rant all the time about how I brought my own welding bucket and grinders instead of what they provided..would always point out I spent more time screwing around trying to get most of that stuff to work then get reamed out when I was behind . They didn't wanna order or fix the crap don't get mad when I enough pride to just being my own if I'm allowed
