… Mr Paul doesn’t strike me as someone who could run for very long Well I for one, dont care if he walks or runs. Just be sure that his good stuff is around as long as I'm able to walk or run, lol, hopefully longer.

Savell have you seen him lately? He’s been on a diet and he’s half the man he used to be. We are going to half the start calling him “Skinny Bossman”

Hawbakers been around since the 20's or 30's Agreed Hawbakers was sold maybe 10 years ago. I believe Sterling Fur bought the name, but I could be misremembering that. Anyhow, it’s not the same lure. For decades Hawbakers Red Fox 100 Gland Lure was my number one fox lure. After the sale, the smell, consistency and effectiveness changed dramatically. I quit using it soon after that.
Eh...wot?

I didn't start making Dobbins' Lures until 1997 after dad passed in that year. So, I've only been at it for about 29 years.

I assumed your dad was selling lure as Dobbins brand before that.
Yes, he started sometime in the 70s, but I don't know exactly when.

I believe this is a stupid question. How many has collected glands and made their own lures and baits. Fox urine and glands are a gland lure that is used the next year. People have been trying for years to find anything that would draw an animal to the set. Either that or blind sets for traps or snare. The question should be who was in business . Odd post you made here Mr. Cowden.....

When I started in late 70s to early 80s trapping coyotes, mink, coon, and beaver… My bag had bottles of lures and baits from hawbaker, Carmen’s, blackies blend, and grawes. It’s not too tough to find these brands around today. Back then I had to buy it at fall conventions or get my hands on a mail order catalogue and send them a check. My local fur buyer carried a few bottles but not many options. I still lean hard on these same brands, probably from familiarity and confidence more than anything. I use different baits today. I like grahams and keg creek, or stuff from Bruce. But if I do buy lure, I still reach for that old short list above. Carmen’s canine call and blackies red ranger always had a place on my coyote line. So did Carmen’s mink gland lure as a change up. For beaver and coon I reached for blackies stuff it was solid. I started buying dobbins beaver lures when I started on this forum and I’m sorry but I don’t recall when I actually joined. I met Charlie at the national convention when it was in Nebraska WAY back when. Was so impressed with his knowledge and how I could barely keep up with him walking across the field for a demo. I was a young dude and he was older but wow was he in good shape. I Still have his signed land trapping book. It’s pretty tattered and well thumbed but it is my predator trapping bible. I asked Charlie some questions once in a letter to him and he wrote me a letter back. I could barely read his handwriting but it was solid advice and I cherished the fact he wrote me back. Black always wrote me back too. Carrol gave me some great advice on converting a dirthole to a post set by just simply shoving a stick in the hole and adding a shot of coyote pee. It’s been a huge back pocket trick I’ve used for so many, many years when dirtholes wouldn’t produce. Such a simple but awesome piece of advice. And, I’ll buy Paul’s beaver lure any day. Beaver, cats, coyotes, coon, I haven’t found anything that doesn’t find it attractive. It’s money in a bottle. Good thread, thanks for starting this. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I didn't start trspping until I was old enough to drive with the "farm permit" in the mid 80s. I distinctly remember drooling over adds for Lennon, Hawbacker, Carmen, & Milligan. I've sure added to my arsenal since then (shout out to Jameson, Dobbins, John Graham's Fur Country line, and Ed Schnieder's KS Trapline Products) but still catch critters with those first formulas I learned to love as well.

Grawe’s is still being made but this will be a line to watch. I was given to understand Gary Jepson owned or partly owned that lure line now.

Grawes coon bait had a different odor but it was a good bait. Took a few late winter coyotes on that stuff too. Jim
