Welp been telling my leadership last few weeks that I'm goin to be applying for a boat transfer soon . Really it's because I'm want a different schedule that will work a bit better for us since my wife is quitting her job soon. No malice or whatever just " hay man when my wife puts in her 2 weeks I'll need to start the ball rolling on my transfer" told the lead cap, told the pilot, told port captain. Proper channels by company procedure and all that .Well wife put in her 2 weeks today and just so happens my relief cap got on some stuff last few days and said if we don't like how he runs the boat and how he talks to us to get off !
Well I got on the computer ,printed out the proper forms filled them out asked him to review them and what else I'd need to move forward. He looks at me looks at the paperwork and back at me turns pale and asks me what's it's all about ? Why would I leave so on and so on.... Just told him I've told everyone about this well in advance, it's nothing personal. Well now he doesn't wanna look at me talk to me , most he's said was he talked to the lead and port captains and he just doesn't believe it . Fun fun fun

sounds like he really likes you and your work but also , he really likes to complain and he didn't figure it would actually come so soon , people always seem to think it will be farther out than it actually is.

just like they think they have all the time on this planet and they don't have any idea how much time they have.

Better than last employee who quit on me, text me Friday night that he won't be in Monday, gee thanks.

I've mostly been self employed. Two of the times I worked for other people, they offered me huge raises if I stayed, when I put my notice in, which actually irritated me. In the one case, they offered me $23,000 more to stay. In my opinion, they should have been paying me a lot more before that, if they thought I was worth that much.

I had to call in sick a couple weeks ago , I had slept Saturday night , all day Sunday , Sunday night and I ended up sleeping all day Monday and Monday night

they know if I call in sick that I am really bad.
I think the last time I had called in I was being driven to the ER

Same exact effect of no call no show. Not like I'm going to hire and train someone on Saturday and Sunday.

Well now he's just acting like a spiteful ex wife , going around and picking apart every little thing trying to find something saying stuff trying to get a reaction out of me . But I'm doin everything the way he says , or exactly as procedures say not giving him any reactions and I'm asking for a copy of everything he's trying to make me sign .

Shoot guy dug though my barge paper work found something off lost it on me , asked why I thought I should have it on the barge , then said it was wrong , asked me what the procedure for it was , said it wasn't a thing , then demanded I write a essay on why I thought it was right and why it's wrong and he wanted me to read it in front of everyone on crew change...... Told him I'd need a printed out form explainigall that and why plus a copy for my personal records to proceed and he just got in a huff dropped it .

Still hasn't touched my transfer paperwork either

But he can't understand why I'd even think of leaving . More and more I understand why people just call the office and go right to HR because this proper channel stuff is for the birds

They become toxic to the rest of the group

He is asking for a transfer to a different department for a schedule that works better for his family.


he is basically like a guy working 2nd shift asking to move to first shift , so he can better fit his family schedule.

same company , yes different supervisor , but if he has been a good worker for the company asking to move shifts is not out of line and doesn't warrant anger from the 2nd shift supervisor.

Actually we're advised to to all this on the boat , apparently it shows professionalism or something vs making a phone call

Id leave today if they let me honestly, I'm not trying to cause any issues or mixups but look , I explained the main reason I'm trying to get on another boat and honestly with the way this guys been on me lately I figured he'd be hopping up and down with joy to get me off and gone.

Second boat , and this is the one I learned to tank on. And no this guy ain't the one who taught me everything on here that's the pilot who I'm actually gonna be really bummed to not be around anymore, he's a great guy and I was on his shift exclusively for the first two years

My plant used to walk supervisors out as soon as they gave notice then we got new top manager and he brought in friends into high places. Production had gone in the toilet after 60 years of the plant being successful. The environment has gotten so bad I dont have one boss that is not looking for a different job due to the upper management. Many production old guys with a ton of experience that were planing to work a few more years have been retiring early to get away from it.

Now they cant walk them out when they give notice they beg them to stay and have hires 2 guys back they are so short handed. Two different guy had enough on different occasions walked out on the spot only to come back the next week with a raise.

I hope corporate catches on and makes needed changes before its to late. Its a great place to work for everyone it stinks seeing it get ran into the ground. I haven't seen anything like it in the 20 years I have been here.

Sometimes it's necessary in life to punch a jerk hard in the sternum or gut.

Everyone works and lives together in a relatively small space

Nothing worse than someone that doesn’t want to be there,,, or brings a bunch of unnecessary drama from home

It gets toxic for everyone else

Eliminate it ASAP is the best solution for everyone

Wolfie, the boats are looking for guys in NY for tugs and the pay is unbelievable!

We had a kid working for us accidentally poured DEF fluid in the engine oil of our Cat 320 excavator. Fried the engine. $30k + screw up. That was on a Wednesday. Next morning he said he was starting a new job on Monday.

My adjectives, given this relationship, would have contained several sentence enhancers, foul in nature, but that's just me.

Had a guy take one of out 938 series cats out to get fuel. Whan he came in he wast talking about how it didnt hold a lot and the gage must not work right. Then he said he climed on top to put the fuel in. I asked where did you put the fuel at. In that pipe up there he pointed. He put it in the hydroelectric fluid fill. He also would have been fired for being off the ground over 4 ' and not tied off had i told him not to say word about climbing up there and just let them know he accidentally put fuel in it in the wrong spot. It was only a flush of the system fortunately and No one thought to ask how he got uo there as long as he didnt poit it out.

When I lived in Charlotte there was a back highway with a turn in it and a skid steer planted in the bushes in the side ditch. Someone lost it off the trailer and it was just kinda sticking out of the ground weird. We drove by that thing for over a week. I can't imagine getting to the job site and looking back at an empty trailer.

Was it buzz that sank his truck and boat at the boat ramp? That was a funny post that day. God bless.
