Reptile people pay decent money for hollow logs, like that, to put in their reptile enclosures. Basically all you have to do is use a wire wheel to knock out the loose duff and bugs and cut to good lengths. They call those hides.

I took two that were dieing down that were over land leaning towards the house. One I left stubbed off log to hang deer from and had a swing for the kids on one limb. Evently the limb broke and it was a knife and ax target.

One day my daughter got up about 530 am let the dogs out to find this

Apparently the night before my youngest was playing burning his name in it and it had a hot spot smoldering and being hollow eventually took off.

When I purchased the place I had 8 old trees. I’m down to 1. A old sweet gum tree. We had a bumper crop of porcupine eggs last year . Been trimmed several times It’s time. Hard for me to remove because these old trees were wildlife magnets. But it is what it is
