Cruise ships are large petri dishes!
I'll NEVER board one. I hear you, any boat bigger than needed to fish the waters you're on is too much boat, imo.

I cannot imagine being on one of those after being told several people onboard have died. I cannot imagine being on one of those even if everyone was healthy! The ships themselves are fascinating, but not with people on them!

And to think folks, rich folks no less, blow alot of money to do that. And it's not like they have to use the boats to get somewhere, it's a friggen joyride going nowhere in particular. I get that out of my system just going for a walk in the woods for free. I think somebody had established on a previous thread that cruisers were not predominantly rich folks, rather just ordinary middle class and upper lower class. Cant remember the specifics, but according to many aquaintances that go on cruises, they are very reasoanably priced. Never been myself, for many of the reason already mentioned. Although, I should never say never as an Alaskan cruise could happen....

Agree on the common carribean ones as I know a few folks who like them and several of those lines are having trouble with the "usual suspects". The plague ship in this case is apparently touring the South Atlantic visting Antartica, St Helena, South Africa among other stops so I'm assuming that it's not inexpensive and targeting a higher class of idiot. But maybe they are just regular common idiots.

We've done East Caribbean , West Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Hawaiian Islands and Mediterranean Cruises. I never wanted to go on the first one. But it was fun and we enjoyed all of them. The Hawaiian Island cruise was our favorite vacation. We have shied away from them since the covid thing. They're a very economical way to see a lot of places. But it would sure suck to be on one with a disease outbreak.
Each day is a gift. LIVE IT with gratitude.

Took the kids on an Inside Passage cruise to Alaska in 2006 after graduation. It was a good time but it was also before all the nastiness of the viruses was a thing too. Was not nearly as big a ship as the monster sizes they have today. We had an outside room with a balcony and the scenery was phenomenal. Went early in the season and it was still jacket weather. Should have gone a month later to see more wildlife.
