Was just kinda thinking about this. Know most people using them live bait cages use roosters but seem like a quail or two would work alot better due to how compact they are. Anyone tried em ?

Coturnix quail startle less and are much less noisy than a rooster, but should still work well.

I sell a lot of quail and pigeons to falconers to use for trapping birds of prey in bal-chatris and Swedish goshawk traps.

Not legal in Georgia, but live quail would likely work well in a cage trap.

Just imagine the sheer stress and terror you'd be putting that quail through.
Poor quail would sense a possum or a skunk coming in and no where to run.
Could physiologically damage it for the rest of it's life.

I'd run this by your wife. Ain't she the one that sees to the livestock?

Coturnix quail are twice as dumb as crap and have no access to protective head gear. They don't have enough brain power to be traumatised. I've hatched out around 1.5 million of them, since 1995 and know this to be a fact. lol

Pigeons worked very well for me.

lol! Neighbors had a little potlicker dog they kept tied on a leash at night. We also have a few bears here.
Little bear came right up to the dog and started playing around with it, cuffing it around.
They heard the dog yapping and crying and went out and ran the bear off. But it was too late. Dog's head was scannered.. When I saw it a couple of days later the dog looked kinda 'comatose'.
Dog's mind went to a place it couldn't come back from. They ended up having to shoot it.
That's what I thought of when Wolfdog was wanting to use his quail for a tethered goat.
