Lol, I don’t know what you were buying that cheap… before the fees.
Last year I used up my “88” Big Bear, and purchased a new 450 Kodiak. I asked him what a new one went for “ about $8 grand? “ “Right around there “ he said. “I’ll go home and dig up a coffee can and come back in a couple days “…5 1/2 hours to home to grab cash…
Turned out to be 8 grand even plus $250 for the tires upgrade I wanted. I paid sales tax when I licensed it in my home state, no license required where I was working. No hidden fees.

Dealers gotta find a way to pass on the tarrif cost imposed on them by the importers.
I bet if the dealer had a sign that said 6k plus 2k in fees, or a machine right next to it for sale that said 8k made in the USA, the transaction would have gone differently.

… I just may do it though
Still running an 05 Foreman. Not sure offhand the mileage or hours. Its not fast. Its not fancy. Its not the softest rides compared to all the independent rear suspension units...but it flat starts when I hit the button.

We've run them all on the ranch and run them till they are basically shot. The Honda 4 wheeler was the only one that was still in usable condition when we got rid of it. Asked the boss why he got rid of it, he said he didn't think the guy would have bought the polaris if he didn't sale the Honda in the deal. And the Honda was probably 7 or 8 years older that the polaris.

In 2018 ibought a new Polaris sportsman 570. Ride the snot out of it and it's my trapping and ice fishing machine. Zero issues. Change oil and grease. Regular matainance and non ethanol fuel. Only issue i have is where they put the battery.

The Polaris might hold up to perfect maintenance and easy use. But, I don't think it'll survive long with those boys of your's. A Honda stands a better chance of survival before you have to start pouring money into repairs. Get a new one.....you'll get a one year warranty. Can buy additional years of warranty....and I reccomended doing so.

I bought a new one 5-6 years ago. I was looking at just honda and yamaha. Yamaha was a bit less and had more standard features so equiped as I wanted it, it was quite a bit less.
I emailed all the dealerships around and negotiated the deal over email. They didn't try any games when I picked it up.
Its been great. I've got 750 miles on it. The worst I've done to it is towing a 2,500 lb water trailer. It wouldn't start pulling that up a hill, but other than that it handled it fine.

Nothing at all wrong with a 20 year old Yamaha or Honda. I have a fleet of 2002-2004 Yamaha 450 Kodiaks. I run them in a saltwater environment. They are nearly bullet proof, just change wheel bearings regularly. I prefer the pre '05 straight rear axle models.

Would like to know what all kind of BS and amounts of all those "fees"
On a side note, bought a Honda 300 brand new in 1991
Gave it to my son several years ago and it is still going Only major issue I ever had was 90% my fault I did not verify that the oil filter "only fit one way" as the parts counter guy had told me.

As was said you dodged a bullet, those polaris are junk and hard to even find anyone that will work on them around here. Got a 2014 honda still going strong, going to have to get new wheel bearings sometime this year though, no break downs and i beat it to death at work. I doubt you find one for 6 grand though, lol.

I would not be afraid of a low hour Honda/Yamaha. I have had several of the Foreman 450’s. All were great machines that were road hard by my 2 sons. Neighbor has a Big Bear that has a ton of miles on it that he uses around the farm.

If you buy a Polaris make sure it has a heated seat and grips. That way your butt and hands won't get cold while waiting for someone to come pick you up.
Buy a Honda or Yamaha

Honda. 2005 I purchased during the crash for 2500.
Rear brakes are not functioning because of sitting outside in the rain for years. Rebuild the carb after it sat for 2 years. Original tires
The skinny guy like you might want to put a front differential drive line lockout on. It makes it easier for people of your caliber to steer and reduces front tire wear.

If you haven’t already bought the Honda it’s probably sold. They go crazy fast around here in that price range.
I have a 2000 Rancher 350 that’s still going strong. A buddy of mine in Canada had a sportsman. He w had trouble with it right out of the box. Wrenched on it for years then ended up getting a used Honda Foreman 500 and has not had any trouble with it.
Those loans are no joke! I saw an ad for a $130,000 boat, if you put $50k down and financed the remaining $80k, they were offering 240 month financing with low low monthly payments of $645 per month. That $130,000 boat just cost ya $200,000 and it's not yours for 2 decades!
I gotta chuckle at the doc fees these stealerships charge. I process the ATV/UTV registration apps they mail in to the DNR. Not only do they screw up filling out a very basic application many times, but theyre charging $100-200 for a registration that costs $5-35. Talk about taking it on the chin.

I have a 2013 Polaris Ranger that I have beat the crap out of .Last trip to Mississippi really put a hurting on it.I`m not easy on anything.Just put 2 grand in fixing it up but shes readdy for another adventure.I don`t know anything about the newer ones but this thing has stood up to me beating the crap out of it.I wouldn`t have paid all the extra money they added on either for a new machine but I wouldn`t be afraid of a used one.

Replaced my 2002 Honda Rubicon. Had lots of hours on it and not able to buy OEM parts many times. Loved so much, gave brother good deal on it. Ended up buying a new 2024 Honda Rubicon as cheap as what they where wanting for ATV purchased during covid. Dealer had $1000. add on to asking price and about $700 sales tax in MO.

I grew up on a Honda 200s rode that thing everywhere and would climb every hill I could find never backed down from a challenge. One day I decided I would jump the berm going around the hill, all I can say is I got good air but the landing was bad , I was sore for around 2 week to 3 weeks but never went to the doctor just shook it off . I figured with the landing I had just jammed everything up and eventually it would work out . Fast forward to my 20’s I kept having neck problems then went to the dr got X-rays then the dr came back In and ask if I had played a lot of football when I was younger cause I had broke my neck and it had healed back on it’s on . Told him right quick I knew exactly when it had happened . That was around 38 years ago and I still can’t turn my head side to side .
