Cabazon is only regulated by size in WA. (I think)..... 30 year fishing the sound for halibut and ling and never accidentally hooked one. They hang out on the top on the shelf, ling and rocks hang on the face. This is what they look like. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/05/full-31-292802-1000000758.jpg)

Looks sorta lingcod-ish. But smaller mouth and head. Never seen one personally. Good job.
GUK.....it's the sound they make when they hit the end of the cable

Cool fish. That’s why I like fishing salt water. Never know what you got. In Missouri I can tell what I got by the way they fight. Plus in my opinion salt water fish fight harder than freshwater fish. Most likely a survivor thing I would guess

The ones I have caught always had blue meat till cooked. Very good eating!
I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

They look a lot like a giant sculpin, of which I have had the dis-pleasure of catching hundreds. Never ate one, but have caught a few I would guess were pushing 8-10 pounds. Cabezon are apparently highly desirable in the pacific coastal lower 48.
Just doing what I want now.

Btw...that's one ugly fish! …. That ain’t Vink …. He has a giant nose … he likely pulled that pic off the internet or something lol Consider yourself fortunate. A man of your stature with a pimple for a cranial cavity would fall over if blessed as thee.
