Sunday morning had a raccoon shuffling through the yard. I keep a 22 by the door, but this time of year its loaded with shorts, for undesirables at the bird feeders.
So, I go to the gun cabinet and debate between the 30-30 and the AR. I grab the AR, and take care of the intruder.
My wife asks, "you sure that was enough gun?"
I tell her "Fine, I need a dedicated coon in the yard gun, a Henry lever in 22mag should work nice."
She just rolled her eyes and walked away.
I take it that means I should start shopping????

My theory is. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness then permission.

Typically there are 2 to 4 guns within reach of the door. Always have whatever is needed right at hand and depending on my mood. Sure a 22 may work for a coon or possum but if im in a hurry and want to be sure I get it taken care of even if it runs there is a shotgun available. Or if a coyote is a little further out there is a center fire rifle. For that. Its like having a bag full of golf clubs or tool box full of tools at hand.

Sounds like a solid reason you have to go shopping.

Told my wife last spring I was needing a new mushroom gun. The spring befor that it was asparagus gun I needed. Your reason sounds much more valid.

Sounds like he gave her notification of his plans to me and she responded leting him know she heard him. Not asking for permission to be granted.

Sounds like a plan! 22 mag is my go to for trouble making coon, I have a CZ 452.
The wife prefers an AR, in fact she put 2 coon out of business just last week.

CZ 452 in 22 mag would be mighty fine. I opted for the ruger precision rimfire in 22 mag - still need to put glass on it
Currently just have .22 rifle and 20 ga single shot by door access for critters. Will say though, I watched a fox approach and I fed her a dead chicken, I have compassion for foxes this time of year when they are feeding pups. I very much enjoy watching them come around even if they are up to killing a few chickens - we have enough that die naturally and as long as I can keep feeding her dead ones........we will get along.

I am thinking maybe a Marlin Trapper 357 and run 38s in it with a Can 158gr of lead smacking a coon out the front door

your neighbors won't even know you shot , neither will your wife.

the warning is it is addictive you may never want to shoot unsuppressed again.

I got my 22 can out of suppressor jail yesterday my stamp came through on Saturday , it is a giggle machine , I mounted it on a ruger MK4 pull the trigger and giggle cause it is just a pinch louder than a red Ryder spring slapping in the tube

I was sitting on my tail gate loading mags and shooting 150 rounds later I packed it up. no ears , no crack , my nail gun makes more noise.

Our neighbors are calmed by the sound of a gunshot. So are the coons. Most importantly, when it comes to coon elimination, so are my chickens. They prefer the AR.

K snow, I think you're good to go with the gun shopping. Sounded like an eye roll of approval. laugh

That’d be my pick too! That lever in 22mag would be slick for calling coons too

Wen we lived in the country I had a 22 mag rifle with a scope. Worked very well. We have now moved to an incorperated city that has a river running through it with a two wildlife areas around it. Tracks all over the place and no way to really control the populations.

At my age, my go to yard gun is a shotgun. Not so picky as to aiming and able to cover a multitude of targets.
I like #4 shot for wood chucks and the like.

DPs and Cage traps I live in the city and we have some trapping ordinances but those are both allowed on private property

trying to get the skunk that sprayed my neighbors cat through the fence and cause him a lot of house cleaning , I took out twenty some coons and possum in about a month running two cage traps. I did get the skunk.
I live in an old area and there are coon dens under carriage house floors and in the lofts.
