Like most fighters in the old UFC, he was a pretty tough guy. I watched him in a match long after he should’ve retired with Matt Hughes, I think. Hughes got him in some sort of an arm hold, and was bending his arm backwards at the elbow further than I thought was possible without having it break. Royce just laid there with no expression on his face and took it. Matt finally got him in a crucifix and the referee stopped it before he made jelly out of Royce’s face.

STrickland/Chamzet fight was worthless. I would have gave the edge to Chamzet. Now the fight before them with the 2 asians was a great fight. They beat the crap out of one another.

I miss the good old days with the likes of Liddell, Rich Franklin, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Randy Couture, Frankie Edgar, Urijah Faber, Jens Pulver and the like. When you heard the names, you knew they were.

The WEC days for the lighter weight classes had some epic fights before the UFC gobbled them up under the UFC umbrella.

But, to be honest, some of those old timers were one dimensional fighters. Most of todays fighters are more well rounded in all phases of MMA but do not have the name recognition that the early fighter had. Some of the fighters on the main cards today are not that well known by the die hard fans much less the casual fans.

I still watch most of the cards but it certainly is a watered down version of the early days IMO.
