Creeping Buttercup is blooming and doing nicely.
Look at these hogs tho. They think it’s feeding time all the time!

Thanks Bruce
It looks better in the summer when we have more plants . We do partial water changes now and the fish are doing well. Thinking of adding more koi. I want a Soragoi koi

You can probably buy soragoi koi from Next Day Koi on EBay. I've bought from them in the past and had no issues with the koi I got. I don't think they are producing many thousand dollar koi, but at least healthy ones that are pretty.

Back in the nineties and early 2000s, I used to grow out and sell some koi. It paid for the others, pond, pump, filter and the feed with a small profit after electric costs.

The herons are really hard on the critters in my pond. Frogs, snakes and fish all pay the price for having them around.

They will grab surprisingly large fish too.

My dogs spend quite a bit of time outside and they do a pretty good job of keeping unwanted wildlife off the property. They chase the herons off when they see them.

Keith I have been shopping and I found quite a few on there. When we first installed the pond I did purchase three from them. Princess Buttercup(a butterfly gin rin Yamabuki ogon) Dark Crystal (a butterfly gin matsuba) and Chester Copperpot (a chagoi koi) (ADC how’s that for language ? lol)
Buttercup was very fragile and didn’t live after two months
Chester was a very active fish and disappeared. Think he jumped out and something took him away
Dark Crystal lived over a year and just died
I don’t know if they are as hearty as some of the raised koi from our original group, but I only have one of them left.

I’ll see if I have pics of some of these ones. Buttercup was my mom’s favorite, she was exquisite. Bejeweled little fish

Those fish actually grew in the pond. I think the eggs came with plants we bought. Started out all black and so tiny you could barely see them. We think they are comet fish!

Dad said when he was a kid they threw a baby catfish into the cow water tank and that thing thrived in there for years and got pretty big. Eating algae and grain falling out of the cows mouth apparently. Seems like that's where they flushed out snappers for a few days too.

I predict a UFO will fly in there and have its way one day. Too easy of an open access area to get in and out. I would consider some type of netting to help protect your little friends. Herons are nesting now.

Our local Rookery Tree is full of nesting birds as we speak. I counted 7 occupied nests yesterday out of 7. We have a full house this Spring.

Once those little ones hatch, game on.
