Thanks for looking! I have several boxes of miscellaneous tanned fur (from Moyles) that I have stockpiled over the years. Needless to say, the fur is not looking great from being squished in a box. I'm planning to offer some of them for sale at an upcoming primitive rendezvous...any suggestions on how I can bring the fur "back to life"? I was thinking of putting it in my dryer with a damp towel and some drier balls and running it without heat for a bit.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Dino

I have the same issues when getting mine from storage. Everything I have is home tanned. I generally just grab it around the base of the tail and flick it like a switch. Usually just takes a couple times to stand the hair back up. The only thing I have some trouble with are skunks. Some of them stay a little flat

You should store tanned fur on a rack where you can hang them.
If they have been garment tanned they should look good after hanging for a week or two.
If you want to get the best price for your tanned fur repair any defects and then block the leather either on a forming board for case skinned pelts or tack them out if open skinned. This will take the excess stretch out of the leather and give them a nice shape.
After blocking if the fur is bent, you can glaze them with water to make the fur uniform.

[Linked Image] Air. This cow blower could dry a 1400 lb 4 H steer in about 10 minutes. After the kids were done with showing cattle and 4H this found a place to stay in the fur shed. Dries wet critters in short order, and also fluffs up fur in inspection windows on dried pelts coming off of stretchers.. Works great on tanned furs back from tanneries also. If you don't have one, a great substitute is one of those "pistols" you attach to an air compressor. G.

Absolutely agree with this! And while hanging up the case skinned after blocking is ideal, pelts will still hold their shape when carefully packed in boxes. Shaping them to hang nicely on the wall increases the value.
