Training a mule is like training a woman.

You got to convince em it’s their idea.

He’s doing great! Found out very quickly that mules are not horses! He’s great though. He’s so dang smart. Got him halter broke and lunging. Working on teaching him to transition up and down in speed. He’s trained to “offer” his feet before I pick em. Hes always thinkin but I really enjoy that about him so far. Watching a lot of Ty Evans and Steve Edwards videos.

I figured I’d share a story about his intelligence. I haven’t been around that many equine. Maybe this is more common than I think. But it blew my mind. . We have an energy free waterer that the animals have to push a pedal to get water. Every horse we’ve had has taken 3-4 days to train em to use it. That little bugger figured it out on his own within an hour of being in the pasture with the rest of the herd! They were chasing him, establishing pecking order, and he came trottin by the waterer (he was upwind of it even) and his neck snapped like you’d see a dog do when they catch scent of a pheasant. He sniffed his way up to the waterer, and just started nosing around for water. 2-3 attempts on the pedal and he was drinking water like a moose! Haha it was so cool. Thinkin I might replace my 20yr horse with another mule someday. This one will be the wife’s ride.

I had a batch of Charolais x Jersey cross steers. And them buggers figured out how to undo chains on my gaits so all my gaits got snaps on em. Hoping that’s mule proof too.
