I think that puts you in a protected class. You should embrace it. Move to California and file for reparations.

Think you're thinking of strictly trapping. This is the discuss whatever you would around a campfire or at a bar section.

Not to nitpick but JoJo was just a loner. It was Loretta that was confused about his gender.

Well, the band teacher pretty much said as much in that article OB posted about it...

“The purpose behind studying Mother of a Revolution is not to provoke controversy, but to deepen students’ understanding of how music reflects the diverse experiences of humanity,” LaDew wrote. “Engaging with this piece helps foster empathy, cultural awareness, and respect for the stories and struggles that shape our shared history.”

Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait

I assume there are lyrics when the band is practicing playing the song. When the band play s it there would not be lyrics. The weeks of classroom practice and “discussion” on the meaning of the song and other bs is where the fear of attempted indoctrination is.

Back when the show MASH was on TV, our band instructor composed the music for us to play in the band. We played the song for a number of events, and everyone loved it. Someone figured out that the name of the song was "Suicide is Painless" and complained to the school board. We were banned from playing it as it promoted suicide. I wouldn't have even known the song had a name other than "Theme from Mash" if they hadn't made such a deal over it.

It’s actually easy to learn that it is a wind ensemble with no lyrics. Making assumptions that there are deep classroom discussions on lyric interpretation in the name of indoctrination, when there are not even lyrics to discuss seems right on par with this commonly created narrative.

But hey, crank the speakers up in the truck while we blast this country song glorifying getting wasted on beers, smoking reefers and having copious amounts of sex with strangers. Nothing to see here, the artist wears a cowboy hat. Lol
