Side-note; back in my days of poverty...(not far back), my little wife wanted some perfume to wear which we couldn't afford so I mixed up a concoction of vodka, castor tincture and vanilla. She always claimed she became a man magnet when wearing it.

I can't contact you Carl since your over your limit on PM's. If you send us your mailing address we can send you a sample. I think you would get a kick out of it.

Cool thread! My mom made soap from the fat of animals we butchered when I was a kid.

At $8 a bar that might turn into a pretty good side hustle.

You might want to add those to your catalog Bob. I'll bet a lot of Tman members would want to buy some soap like that. Probably have to carry a stick with you in the woods to beat the bobcats back with.

Great job!

X2 on this. Sounds like something I'd try for sure.

I don't have any interest in another side hustle smile. I only make homestead soap for my own use as I really like it.

I am as busy as I want to be now. Maybe Carl ( Beaverpeeler ) will find an interest and it can provide a side hustle for him in the off season besides gardening. I bet it would have a decent market for the right crowd.

I sure look forward to trying it out. I wonder if it will leave a noticeable body scent after use like Irish spring or some of the deodorant soaps.

It sounds like a fun project but "gardening" 12 acres of organic fruit (as a side hustle to my fur trapping) stretches me some. grin

Maybe Cathryn would be interested.

She's been absent lately.

Most any animal fats can be used as the soap base. The Lye / water mix is what transforms the fat into the soap.

My basic formula is 40 oz. wt. solid fat melted.
5.4 oz wt. of lye crystals dissolved in 13.5 oz of distilled water

Once the ingredients have reached around 100 degrees or cooler they can be blended thoroughly together. I stir by hand for a while to mix all the ingredients well. I then use a stick blender for a few minutes to whip everything until it starts to show signs of thickening. Then it is time to get the soap base poured into your mold(s).

It is not hard to do. Some care must be taken for safety precautions using the lye and water mixture.

Thanks
