Got a late start to the open water spring beaver this year.Lots of snow still on the backroads.Bonus was real good fur on the beaver with the late snowmelt keeping the water cold. The slow melt and no rain also made the water levels a lot more stable
I try to hit the spring beaver along the concession roads on my line close to town.
Had 10 sets out for 9 days and picked up 31 beaver,2 otter and one rat.

Beaver are still winter quality this year (as you can see in some of the pictures) due to the late spring. Was still rotten Ice on the lakes last week.
Still snow in the bushso the water is still ice cold.
They start shedding when the water warms up.Season closes may 15 here but this year there will still be a significant percentage of good beaver right thru to the end of May.
Spring beavers are good quality here for 3 weeks after ice out.Oddly not a single one of the 31 beaver had bites, obviously a very late dispersal this year due to late ice out.Another oddity this year, out of the 31 beaver only two were carrying young.
One Otter was good the other had some tail singe.
I have a market for tanned otter regardless.
