The 4 legged ones of course. Lol
I’ve got a guy who needs a fox removed.. we have the necessary paperwork.
I’ve tried using a burnt log in two places… one has a walk through type set and the other is a urine post set.
It doesn’t go near the chicken house but it only tends to show up when the chickens are out.
This is in a suburb area so I had to run them off on a sliding cable behind some obstacle so nosey do gooders don’t see something jumping around in a trap.

He says it comes up out of a ravine on government land so I put the sets as close as I could to it.

Any ideas guys?? I can’t use exposed bait or feathers. Against regs.

Farmland fox and coyotes are not hard to funnel down because they walk those edges… this fox is running across yards.

Dirt hole with good lure and fox urine upwind of where you suspect he'll be, no bait. Don't blend it, leave the dirt pattern exposed, small backing.

Eh...wot?

Its a tough row to hoe with town foxes. I have one tough one right now myself. Ive taken many fox off this property over the years but this one is giving me the slip as well. I have found sets on hill trails work well but will get set off by deer unless you lay a branch over the trail so deer jump it or go around but fox will duck it, then a splash of urine or very little lure to cause them to stop momentarily usually works also setting heavy with different scents and baits. Give em options and hope one combination works. But I fear this fox has been avoiding my sets due to being educated by another trapper in the area. None of the usual tricks are working. I like to really block down the trap so there is no way the fox can step anywhere but the trap when working the set.

You didn't say what type of government land the fox is coming from but I have had good luck contacting our dnr and gaining limited permission in similar situations, so that might be worth a call or two. Paper, plastic, and fake feathers can be your friend in these situations, or if its exposed bait laws like Wisconsin which means can not be seen from above you could do a cubby set of sorts, so the bait/feathers can only be seen from the low angle of a fox on approach.

Not sure any of this is new but hopefully it helps you come up with a solution.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Hang a snare and drive a kill stick where he is coming out of cover.(only if there are no neighbors pets running)
