My wife & I have been married for over 35 years and during that entire time there never has been a store-bought loaf of bread or dinner roll in our house. I’ve been making hamburg, hotdog, English muffins, & Ciabatta(sandwich) rolls for the past 15-20 years. Passed on to our daughters & grandson how to make no-knead, 3-day cast iron dutch oven bread.

That's an amazing track record for home baking! I grew up on home baked bread but on occasion mom bought a store bought loaf. Not very often but once in a while.

Here’s a true family story about store-bought bread told by the wife and stepdaughter. When my oldest stepdaughter was in grade school she came home and told her mother that she wanted Bozzo Bread (instead of the usual homemade) because all her friends at school said it was so good. Her mother told her OK we’ll buy a loaf and you tell us how it is compared to our homemade bread. A loaf of Bozzo Bread was bought and that night at the supper table my stepdaughter opened the bag and buttered a slice. 2 bites and she threw the slice in the trash and told the family she didn’t want anymore of that bread ever again.

Yes Trapper7, usually when I bake hamburg buns we’ll split one for a dinner roll at supper, fresh, 1st day homemade breads are always a treat. My ma baked bread a lot and the big deal for us kids was that she would fry the bread dough about 1” thick in bacon grease for us, slathered with melted butter! I wish every kid could have a taste experience like we did! It was better than leftover pie dough with brown sugar & cinnamon even! LOL
