It’s horrible. I’ve dealt with it for years after a nasty back injury in my early 20’s. Stretching helps some, try to avoid as much twisting as possible. Eric

Intensive stretching was my solution. At least 15 minutes of effective stretching a day. I also got a new mattress which helped. Nearly always symptom free now. I do my stretching about three times a week on average now. Terrible pain and can really prevent good sleep which makes everything else worse too. Best of luck.

Yoga to stretch things out, then ice at night, I’ve found Biofreeze works for me on my back when things get bad she may have to try different ointment’s to find one that works for her.

Stretching and also sleeping or relaxing with a pillow or two under your knees to raise your knees or if a side sleeper, pillow/pillows between the knees

I used to be plagued with sciatica issues. I typically didn't get more than 2-3 hours of sleep a night because of it. Haven't had a single issue since November when they installed a lot of hardware in my lower back. But I had a lot of other problems besides the sciatica. Hopefully she won't have to go that route. Stretching a lot gave some temporary relief, nothing that was long lived though.

Yes, it stopped me from beaver trapping on the local rivers this spring, tossing 40# beaver up onto 4’-5’ banks(twisting to my right side) AND later fleshing those beaver with poor posture. I found if I fleshed while twisting to the right side really put the hurt to me! Didn’t know if I could make it the 40yds to the house with tears in my eyes by golly!!! Layed me up for 3 days but stretching exercises(the ones standing against a wall) really speeded-up my getting back to normal and said I was done beaver trapping- too friggin old to be tossing beaver anymore!!

I was splitting fire wood day before yesterday and felt the nerve pull when I twisted to the right and knew I was in trouble. I went in and did a couple of stretches and immediately felt better.

There are a several stretches that help some. Crossing leg foot at knee and pulling the knee tword my chest stretches glute. Pulling knees up to chest one at a time. And several more I was shown during physical therapy.

Lately im not sure if its my back or Ms causing problems probably both. Legs have also been cramping up at night. Stretching also helps with the legs some what.

Stretch, stretch, stretch. Then when that stops working go to a Dr. and get some Cyclobenzapr . It is a muscle relaxer, take it at bedtime, and before she gets out of bed start stretching. Seems like occasionally you need to get it all relaxed so you can get back in front of the tightness. G.

Yes, that stretch does work. Infact, I did that stretch today! I will get nighttime leg cramps when I’m trapping hard. I tried taking Mag and it seemed to help BUT one banana a week about 1 hour before bedtime takes care of the cramps for me.

Thanks guys. Stretching seems to help as much as anything as does walking and just staying active. She has a couple drugs too but doesnt want to depend on them much

It started getting worse for me last summer when hiking steep hills to get ready for my wife's bighorn sheep hunt. By September I thought I was ready for a hip replacement. The orthopedic surgeon I went to took xrays and did an evaluation and said my hip showed wear but he thought the pain was coming form pinched nerves in my lower back. So my doctor ordered a CT scan of my lower back and the neurosurgeon said he was confident fusion at L5- S1 would eliminate my sciatic / hip pain. I had the back surgery in March. While it helped with the low back pain i've had for years it did not solve my sciatic / hip pain. it just keeps getting worse. I went to a physical therapist that unlocked my SI joint and put me on a stretching regimen. But that didn't help.

Finally, I got an MRI of my hip with a different orthopedic surgeon. I have avascular necrosis in my hip joint. It lost it's blood supply and is deteriorating - bone on bone - bad. He looked at the Xrays form the other surgeon back in September and said he would of offered hip replacement surgery then.

My surgery is scheduled for the 23rd of June. My surgeon was concerned about the blood clot I had in my lungs at Christmas time. He said hip surgeries have the worst risk of causing dangerous blood clots, and the risk goes up dramatically if you've had a blood clot within 6 months. So he and my hemotologist wanted me to wait until I had been on blood thinners for at least six months before doing the surgery. Watching the clock with all the pain as my hip keeps getting worse sucks.

I stubbornly pushed through the pain and got through my wife's sheep hunt and enough trapping to catch three bobcats. But it has been a rough year. I can't take nsaids pain relievers while on blood thinners so I have had to give in and take oxycodone when the pain gets more than i can handle. They are long days and longer nights.

I feel you wife's pain! Get a good medical evaluation or two or three to find out what procedure she needs. Constant pain is no way to live. Prayers for her!

Each day is a gift. LIVE IT with gratitude.

I get pain I assume from past physical work.
Drinking LARGE amounts of water helps.

One Doc told me farting is pain leaving the body.
I believe him lol.

Not the miracle, If you do find it let us know.

Do low impact sit ups, bent knees feet under coach even if only four or five at first. Use towel under lower back. Once or twice a day really helped me. Now do fifteen twice a day will get to twenty five I think but man it helped me more than any stretch ever did… we are losing muscle everyday and we ain’t going to build it back in our sixties so keeping them at least firing makes a big difference..

Lay on edge of bed with the effected side out. Let the leg just hang off unto the floor. Lay like this for 3-5 minutes Do this 3 times a day . It will hurt bad first few times. I was skeptical about it but it works. It realigns the si joint and moves things away from the nerve. As for sit ups ? Hard to do if your back is injured as well. Plus the steel rod running up my spine prevents any sittups.
