"This is the day we pay homage to all those who didn't come home. This is not Veterans Day, it's not a celebration, it is a day of solemn contemplation over the cost of freedom." —Tamra Bolton

Sadly, three day weekend and the start of summer for most.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Not as many people cruising the cemetery and not a lot of flags.

Its a time to reflect on the cost of freedom and those who paid for it.

I agree it is a day to remember all those that never came home and gave their live so our country remains free, All my uncles served and all the Vet's in our 4 local cemetery's have flags. The sad thing is that as a person grows old the more graves you know as family and friends, I visit 7,and stop to remember not only those Vets I have known, but, all the others that I knew,Go walk a cemetery and stop a moment to remember all those you knew, it can turn into a long walk about, I do it each year.

A day of Honor for your service people is a privilege for all Americans.

A small town parade and hot dogs in the park is an awesome day!!

We have a large veterans cemetery nearby. Some group places flags on the graves every year.

About a year ago I visited an American cemetery in Normandy. Wife and I took some small flags and placed them on the graves of soldiers from our state. I cried my eyes out. I brought home three acorns I found on the pathway. I hope they soon sprout and produce an oak tree.

GOD BLESS all the men and women who gave up there lives for this country. Sunday in the rain my wife and I put out 57 small flags along the front yard. Yesterday, Memorial day at sun rise I lowered our big flag to half mast. I stood there, hat over my heart and thanked all those who gave there lives for this country. I do this every year but yesterday was different. I started asking myself WHY so many had to die to keep this country free when there are so many that relish living here that want to tear it down. The last time we as a country almost came together was on the few weeks after 9 / 11. Will it take another one? Gods I hope not. I'm 77 years old, a wounded Vietnam vet and yes I still care. I've lived my life but what do we live our sons and daughters, there sons and daughters???

Seems like all our Holidays are being moved/shifted to appease the non-traditionalist. Here we are mighty proud of "Our Ragged Old Flag" and what it stands for - Our freedom at the great cost of our own.
