My daughter brought a 2003 Chevy avalanche for 1000 bucks,, I’ve been trying to fix the easy stuff..
Brakes, rotors ( had to replace the lug studs because previous owners cross threaded the lug nuts using an impact.. I could barely get them off.

Unfortunately, they failed to tell her that the rear main seal is leaking.. and I know my limitations … wayyyy too much going on for me to replace it. I can’t crawl around under it anymore.
Has anyone used the blue devil sealer to plug up the leak?

I’m not sure… I’ll know more in a few days… I noticed oil leak from the area and checked her dipstick and saw she was 3 quarts low… I told her to check it every day to see if the loss is substantial.

I'll just tell you my answer.

if you have a 1,000 dollar car that runs and drives

IF you can make it a week on a quart of oil.

buy cheap oil on sale stock up

change the filter every 5K miles.

park on the gavel or in the street.

run it till she dies

I wouldn't waste my $ of that stuff and just buy oil. Magic stuff in a can isn't gonna fix a seal.

I wouldnt waste money on the sealer. This is a very common issue on all of the gm 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines. They all leak every one of them. If its just leaving drip marks under the truck and not leaking a major amount of oil, then I would just keep an eye on the oil level and drive it. We always replace the entire rear main plate as shown in the photo because most of the time the gasket for the plate is most of the leak. They are like a Harley if it aint leaking oil then there isnt any oil left in it. LOL
