It would be good to know if anyone has tried to catch that beaver prior. My experience has been with educated beavers and they would have nothing to do with a conibear or even a snare. Would not come near any bait or lure. I had success with a well concealed foothold on a drowner. If there is not sufficient depth to drown, I hear tell that long-chaining beavers can be effective in areas where the water is too shallow. Hopefully you can connect...good luck.

As far as i know there has been no trapping on the property i didnt have the stuff for a drowning set so i ran a 5’ piece of 1/2 or 3/4 rod through the eye pf the spring and shoved it about 3feet deep till it got pretty solid

If you are trapping a pond, locate the outflow or the overflow pipe. They generally can't pass up the sound of trickling or running water and will be active in that area trying to stop the flow. You are likely to find spots there where you can make some good trail sets or blind sets.

Ponds

Typical locations most ponds share.

Overflow standpipe and spillway. Spillway often gets dammed. Dam breach set.

Downstream outlet base of spillway, often a crossover trail from main dam to here. Trail sets, snares if legal. 330 or foothold at the pond end of crossover.

Upper pond end, usual location of lodge/den. Avoid setting den until last to avoid alerting.

Above that the inlet stream is often dammed, look for crossovers and channels.

Walk banks looking for feed beds and pullouts. Note the current choice of feed, match the hatch with peeled sticks and some Woodchipper.

If anyone has been there before you avoid using castor based anything until you need to. I prefer blind everything to start and if you get lucky you never have to break out lure.

I like my beaver dumb and want them to stay that way. So tread lightly.

If you dont know if there are beaver there or not, break the dam and see if it gets repaired.
It may take a while for beavers to work on the dam in summer during dry periods but they get active right after a good rain.
First thing I do when doing nuisance beaver is scout the whole area good and find the house.Scout as far upstream as to where there is natural flow-in other words up beyond the impounded water limit.Often you will find a bigger pond with a house or bankdens.

I looked up and down stream the property owner tore the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) out completely i found the den built a castor mound near it with 330 full submerged no new chewings nothing over a seven day period and its been raining on and off all week and its been in the 50’s so i believe the beaver moved ot a massive pond up the road

Likely you are right about the beaver moving out after a major dam removal.
But they will show up there again, just hard to say when.
Tell the client to call you as soon as he sees some damming activity and not break the dam until instructed by you,if you are going to take on the job.
If they start damming the old spot in the future and the client calls you,get on it right away since the low water will be a big benefit to you to take them out in some blind sets in the channels.
The low water limits their travel to existing channels.

Thx for the advice! Yeah when he told me he tore out the dam and unblocked the overflow pipe i knew they where either gone or gonna be extremely shy i made a decent castor mound maybe 50ft from the den and got no action for 7 days so i told h i thought they was gone for now but that they would prolly be back so if i can get him to pay me ill go back if he wont he can find someone else

That's why I require cash up front. I flat rate my work with a tentative initial quote based on information given, be thorough in asking questions, with an initial site inspection required for a firm quote to avoid surprises. Always caution that it may go up based on what is found. Example, a flat rate simple beaver trapping could get you add on dam removal/culvert clearing/etc. Price those separate to save the trapping only if thats all they want.
Also stress the inability to prevent future establishment and have them consider an annual service.
