Them receiving your furs is only the start of the process. If you value your furs being graded and lotted properly you will develop a little more patience with the process.

One of you “complainers” needs to invent a machine to grade and lot fur. Every one of the pelts in this auction is handled by a human several times. Each otter and bobcat CITES tag has to be recorded and double checked. One misplaced number can delay the entire shipment.

Back in April the FH depot in Wisconsin posted on Tman that they were looking for help to get the shipment ready to go. How many of you volunteered to help them out??

Lots of factors go into getting ready for an auction. Don’t be too hasty to criticize.

Some believe that the fur is shipped and gone to NB the night of last receiving day…….lol. Do they think FedEx just blitzes across the international border with the fur? Are they supposed to scan one fur at a time once it’s graded and lotted and update Billy’s account to appease the whiny little baby?…….lol.
There's a lot of things that happen before the accounts are updated. Some people forget that they’re trappers with full time jobs. They also let people know that they were looking for help……not too many raised their hands.

Every dam time……..
If it’s a new shipper, fine, there’s a steep learning curve……but a lot of repeat whiners. Need a job or something to do.

Another way to look at it is . Having three instead of two increases the work load by fifty per cent. G.

The auction room was full of chinamen and koreans last sale-even more visa requests for this sale.
The small amounts of fur compared to back in the day is no problem,They need porters to work with all the buyers coming in.

Slow your roll big rigs. Groundhog day , complainers yet you're here complaining about the complaining. Lol. I had no know idea setting for a fur auction was so involved must be different from a farm auction or let's say a rare collection auction of comic books and rare coins.

OK, so what do the porters do?

I have this image of four husky men with poles on their shoulders transporting Chinese buyers around the auction house on a fancy litter.

Porters assist the buyers by taking the samples off the racks, position them so the buyer can inspect the goods and rehangs the bundle and does that again over and over and over.

A good porter will keep the bundles moving at a steady pace so the buyer can maximum his time.

Sorry fellas. Sometimes it’s good to step out of one’s shoes and look at what I typed……and yea, I’m whining about the whining……lol.
I know my buddy sends a broker, who buys for more than one client, but like Boco said, there’s never been so many visas for over seas buyers.
I was ripped apart for some stupid questions when I first shipped, but I like straight true answers…….and if they’re new, there’s no stupid questions…..lol.
Do porters have to be attractive and dressed up? If so, maybe I could just help in 5he back sweeping floors or something.
One of these years I’m going to one, maybe even try to make a short video if Mark would allow.
Grades will be up soon. Think there’s only badger, ranch fox & dressed fur left to complete the catalogs. I’ll bet you later today or early tomorrow I’ll be printing off and organizing my info.

As long as they get it done by the time the online bidding starts and the buyers are there in person who cares if you can see your grades yesterday, today or tomorrow. Now saying that I check every morning like everyone else crazy

They upgraded the trapper/buyers portal a few years back to make it better after complaints. They started posting the auction live on you tube, after some complaints. They added online bidding a few years ago, although not live with auction room bidding.

Slowly but surely they are being dragged into the 21st century.

Hot take here: FHA has never come to realize that they have two sets of customers, at least not in the 13 years I have been shipping fur to the canadian auctions. They seemingly cater everything to the fur buyers and they ignore the trappers. There is a reason the NAFA consistently had more wild fur than FHA. That's because they realized that a little effort and transparency goes a long ways. NAFA had a easy to find document that detailed out what shippers could expect for commissions, shipping fees, and drumming fees. Several years ago I reached out to FHA to get what the Drumming fees for the few fur out species I trap because I couldn't find them posted anywhere on their website and the numbers they sent me haven't been right for the last 5 sales. Using the numbers provided, my fees should have been less than what I am getting charged. For some reason they don't want to openly post this or if they have, I can't find it. That leads me to the second thing, their website is almost unusable on a cell phone. I have had 3 different phones that won't allow you to click the drop down menus at the top. Hopefully with this influx of money from the March sale and this upcoming sale they can move from the ice age of technology into the 21st century. I think that too many of us got spoiled by NAFA and how well they treated the trappers and that leads to the disappointment we are seeing aired in this thread. NAFA had plenty of issues but at least you could go onto your account and see what the estimated value of your fur before the sale and your account updated almost real time as lots got sold. I just hope that the buyer side is light years ahead of the trapper side of their business.

On a more serious note, did anyone one else notice that the badger quantities went from 400 down to 150 from their preliminary list to the catalogs number?
