Podcast with a person who has studied it and controls of it. Talks about NY primarily but also N. WI.

His take, let it go, it will gradually disappear leaving just a few stragglers.

What to control instead. Many here won't like it but Deer are bigger problem.

Earthworms, Garlic mustard and deer and their relationships.

Interesting listen.

It's spreading like wildfire. I can't imagine just letting it go, but that's what people around here are doing.

Maybe a biocontrol can be found.

Eventually garlic mustard toxifies the ground against itself. That's what happened on my farm. It was very prevalent in my ditch row in 2012. Now I only see it rarely, in an unmowed area, where it wasn't before.

The yard and surrounding area is full of it, I have the yard mostly clear now, both hand pulling and Glyphosate....you can eat it it's claimed.

We were getting a good handle on the garlic mustard at our gun club pre 2018. Then a tornado went through, We had some clean up logging done. We now have acres of garlic mustard, way too much to do anything about. You'd need a small army to hand pull all of it every spring for 5-7 years.
I guess we'll see what happens with it.

Yellow mustard usually shows up in hayfields that were cut overly late the year before, often due to a wet early hay season. Being cut late lets it go to seed making more of it. Timing in cutting is crucial for weed control and promoting plants like clover.

I lot of people seem to report invasives worsen after an area is logged

Tornado went thru my place too. Did some logging afterwards.
very little to no increase in invasive.
Most likely logging equipment brings in seed.
Or the seed bank is full of invasive and the extra light gives them a leg up.

I pull Garlic mustard by hand every yr in my 20 acres of woods.
There are no large patches.
Some of the patches disappear after about 3-5 yrs of hand pulling.
Other small ones are gone after one season.

I don't think it can ever be eliminated. New plants will always show up.
Usually in very low numbers which are easily hand pulled.
If you keep at it you'll prevent a build up in the seed bank.
I walk my woods pretty much daily and am always on the look out for plants.
I still find new plants here and there nut after pulling they are gone before seed set so they do no further damage.

The size of the garlic mustard plants here seems to get smaller as you continually pull them.

I burn my woods. After the first year of burning you'll usually get a bunch of plants. but the consecutive yrs of burning will either wipe it out or knock it back to the occasional new
plant here and there.
