The population went from 600 some people to 60 some in 1609 and 1610 during the Dying Years. Through immigration, the population went back to 600 some by 1621 and then dropped to 60 some people again in 1622 when about 90% of the colonists were killed by the Powhatton Indians during the Powhatton Massacre.

A higher percentage of the European population of America died then, by far, than at any other time during our history.
