My friend, neighbor, and bee keeping mentor retired and is having some life changes. Health issues and personal. He is down sizing his accumulations and gifting a lot of it to my kids.

Last week it was a bunch of fishing equipment. Tackle, rods and reels from fly rods to heavy ugly sticks with salt water peeing reals and everything in between.

Today he txt me asking if my daughter still shoots. Then let's me know to stop by and pick up some old Russian rifles from the 40s and ammo, possibly some 9mm hand guns and some reloading equipment for the kids.

He said he sees my kids as his own.

Im a bit overwhelmed at the moment. 1 its very generous, 2 im conserned his health issues are worse than he is letting on. He sold out all his bees and equipment all ready as well. He is a young guy retired early when the company kind of forced out a lot of its senior managers last year. The neighbor on the other side of the farm got forced out at the same time.

I may need to move up my plans to buy a used deep v fishing boat like the 18' lund i just saw on market place and get him out on the water. I do have more time since I have been cutting back hours. Now maybe my body will work as expected. Maybe I would be better off with a pontoon incase I get wobbly.

Sure was unexpected, and heart warming to know he thinks so much of the kids.

I have ocean gushed with a guy that has MS, he has a 23 foot Trophy offshore boat. It’s mostly getting in and out that creates troubles for him.

It is good that your friend is gifting his possessions to those who would appreciate them because of his health and personal reasons. Please do be aware that giving away personal items can be a sign of depression and suicidal thoughts. Don't be afraid to ask him if he has these thoughts. It might save his life.

He is a privet individual, I asked and let him know clearly im always available. Time of day or if im away at work it doesn't matter. Im always avaliable and can drop every and will be there.

Sounded like he was just getting lightened up sh if he did decide to pull the ejection seat on his marriage he could do so fast. At least thats how I took it last week. Great insight and it did go through my mind.


According to my wife that is currently there with my boys it sounds like he decided divorce is what he is doing for sure so something must have made him make up his mind. And he is really cleaning house Apparently. My wife just sent me a Pic of her van loaded up with reloading supply, gun cases in guessing loaded with guns and tools.

Beyond the guns he told me about a .22/410 with instructions its for our first grand kid. Apparently his son " is not right in the head" and he thinks of my kids as his grand kids and wants things to go to where they will be used. Also not a lot of room in an apartment my wife told me he has lined up already.

Edit the boys just sent me a few pics showing off their gifts. The 13 year old a 9mm steyr, 15 year old a glock 23c, and small 9mm Springfield xd for my daughter.

I Appreciate the gesture but hate seeing him clearing everything out like this. He just retired and should be enjoying life. Not having health, problems getting divorced, and liquidating things and moving to an apartment. Gray divorced always floor me. But thats years of un happiness and hiting the limit I guess. Sure makes me so happy I have such a great wife. So far at least I hear they go nuts in their 40s and 50s?

I now they you mention it geting in and out of my cousins boat in Mississippi was when I had the most trouble. Launching the boat could be interesting, I guess Its a good thing I wont be fishing alone and can have one of my boys get it off the trailer and over to a doc so the 2 cripples can get in. Lol.

well the boys are the right age to get some good fishing in with you , be hard to argue with time spent with them and invite your friend.


he might think his medical is worse than he is telling anyone and he is clearing out and divorcing her as to not worry about ending up in medical debt and causing her trouble.

when we had the what would you do if you were told you had one year to live discussion , a few guys here said , lose everything to their wife in the divorce so that they didn't take her down with medical debt.

solo launching a boat is technique but your kids can do everything while you drive the truck. good time for them to learn.

side bunks , a good long bow line , rubber boots make it a lot easier



for the launch neatly coil the bow line on the bow , slip over the post on the trailer , unhitch the clip on the boat all straps removed
back in till the wheel wells 3/4 covered give it a last 6-12 foot back in quick step on brake , pull forward , as soon as the trailer is out of the water with the pull forward very slowly pulling the boat back into the ramp. then you can put the truck in park and go move the boat to the dock or just tie it off to the dock with the bow line if it is sitting on the ramp nicely.

especially at not great docks it is easier to sit on the bow and swing your legs in then walk to the back of the boat and shove off with the push pole

to load with boat tied off at dock , back trailer in so bunks are 2/3 under water

coil that bow line in hand and give the boat a good shove out and way , then walk to the tongue of the trailer and hand over hand it into the bunks and pull it up what you can.

the side bunks line it up as you are pulling it in hand over hand with that long bow line. then since you are wearing the knee high rubber boots it is easy to take a few steps out and hitch the winch on to finish pulling the boat up the bunks

Ya GC I watched a fishing guide in gulf that was slick he unhooked the boat had a nylon strap attached to the boat backed in hit the breaks the boat came off he pulled up un hooked the end of the strap from the trailer and pulled the boat over to the dock.

I saw other guys that had troll motors that would drive the boat where the guy wanted from a remote. He just pushed th bot off the trailer and parked. The boat flotted off some and he brought it back to the dock with the remote.

Your neighbor must be very fond of you and the kids. You have prob been good to him in the past! Sometimes folks just want their stuff to go to who will use it, not necessarily their own kin. I don’t know who is gonna get my stuff when I croak. My niece and stepdaughters don’t care about that stuff

Heck smash i talked to my wife and it turnd out to be 7 long guns 3 handguns and enough reloading stuff and ammo there are only walk paths to get through the living room. My floors already sag due to ammo storage area.

Will be interesting to go through and find places to put. I did see a shot shells press in one of the pictures. I have not loaded shot shells ever so that will be something new to look into. It never made economic since to load them as few as I shoot. I dont know what gage it is for or if there are parts to make it different gages. . Honestly the only shot shells loading that made since to me was 410 and 28 due to the higher price of them and they use less components. Always said if I got one of those I would add in the price and reloading set up at the time of purchase.

Geting the gifts are nice. But im more concerned about how my is doing. He is a great guy that is very intelligent.

My kids wife and future grand kids will get all my junk. I never thought about folks that dont have kids. Thats difficult for me to comprehend since everything I have done the last 24 years has been kids first and for their benefit. Definitely a different perspective and things to think about.

Got home at 2 am last night. Took a quick look this morning. Ya, where to start. Its 8 long guns not 7 3 hand guns, shot shells press tha has 12 g written on it a cast Lee single stage, 6 to 8 sets of dies, 3 beam scales lead melting pot mold for 20g slugs 18 cavity buck shot mold, ammo, components, Lyman case trimmer stack of totes full of shotgun components. Its a full 2 truck loads of ammo cans, totes and boxes. The rifle reloading stuff looked unused. Case trimmer and 2 scales lead melter, molds, dies all look un used. Shot shells lower looked well loved and used.



All the guns had post it notes on then with leter of first name on who gets what. I was surprised a 1924 Karabiner 98k has my initial on it. I may just shoot a deer with it this year. Thee are new dies in for it in one of the boxes so i can load some good expanding rouns for it. I have not loaded for a new to me cal and rifles for a long time. .

Each kid got an sks, pistol, and the boys got Mosin–Nagants and my daughter got a k 98, future first grand kid gets a single shot 410 .22 single shot. And of course I got a k 98. And a ton of reloading gear. I have some Some duplicates. Now I have 5 beam scales and 2 sets of some dies. I guess one of the kids will get set up if they decide they like hand loading.
