Guys I'm new to the lure deal..
I had cat, bladders, hock gland, and butt glands . I grinded them all up. And filled with pure bladder caught cat urine. I put out in the sun all day yesterday 85 to 90 out. I took it inside opened it and it didn't smell good or catty.. I put some on a spoon left over night in the morning it smelled catty. What am I doing wrong. I'm no lure maker any help will be appreciated.

I don't like to age any glands in heat. I age them in an air conditioned/heated building where the temperature is kept at a cool consistent 70 degrees Summer and Winter. Bobcat glands I like to age for a year. Canine glands takes two to three years. The red fox glands I'm using now are 2012 vintage, and they smell very foxy.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

I also age indoors. Always have. Some I hear like to heat render/age outdoors. Too many variables can occur. Slow steady aging gives me our best true animal odor results. If they turn out gray or black in color you have too much bacteria developing in them. Prime glands should be light tan to light brown in color if aged properly, that is my experience.

Thank you guys they still are a light tan and light brown color.. I took them into the house after the day bring out side. They have a weird smell. But like I said I put some on a spoon let sit over night next morning they smell very call. I put sodium benzoinste in it after the sun deal thinking I messed up with the glands and urine cooling in the sun just hope I didn't ruin them rookie mistake.

I'm no expert (listen to Bob and Paul) but I to like to age in a controlled environment. I have some glands that I put in a jar and put in the rafters of an uninsulated shed, back when I was first experimenting with lures and glands. I didn't know, and that is what an older trapper told me to do. I forgot about those glands and they sat up there for about 10 years, before I took them down and checked them. They do have some attraction, but they have a very different odor than glands aged in a controlled environment.

Now you've stopped them with SB, so you basically have fresh or slightly tainted glands, which isn't bad, I've used fresh glands to good effect, and mixed stopped fresh with stopped aged glands also. (canines, I've never experimented with cat glands).

There is a big difference between aging and rotting down/tainting. If you're goal is to rot them down, you can do that with just placing them someplace out of direct sunlight. I wouldn't add urine to them in the rot down process. You're trying to break down the tissue/meat/fat structure of the base material.
Aging is a slow process of allowing the material to release some of the gasses that go along with the process. As the experts have said, it's best to keep them cooler than room temperature, otherwise the amount of gas build up is hard to control. Aging also lets the material within the ingredients blend and mellow. I typically taint my bobcat glands for a few days in warm weather, then stop that process with sodium benzoate. Then I allow the glands to age for at least 7-12 months (I bury mine in an old Gott cooler), at which time I add any other smells I want in the mixture. If you want to add urine to the mix, this is the time to add it so you can judge how thin or thick you want to go with the urine.
