No frostscraping this time of year.
Gotta put up the spring catch without the benefit of the cold weather.

It looks like you're starting to get the hang of fur handling, Robert. With a little more time and experience, you'll do better. Keep up the good work! grin

You beat me to it. I was going to same the same thing. He's always had putting up beaver an art.

Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.

I give Boco credit for not doing that crazy Canadian thing of sewing the leg-holes shut. Every time I see that I think that guy much only catch ten-fifteen a season. LOL

I think sewing leg holes on boarded beaver started from the skinning and handling competitions at FHA convention.
The competition was so stiff back in the day you needed some small trick to put you ahead. It was copied from the native hooped skins that came in from up north. All frost scraped and frost dried. When laced on hoops to dry the only way to close the leg holes was sewing. The buyers back in the day preferred these parchment beaver handled by the northern natives.
There were some great beaver skinners and handlers at those competitions back in the day,
I participated and won my share of competitions for every other species, but never competed in the beaver competitions. There were too many other beaver men that were faster and better beaver handlers.
Guys that trapped and put up way more beaver than I did in a season.
I have skinned and put up beaver at FHA convention just as demonstration.
They have plenty of fur on hand in the cooler for both competition or demonstration for anyone who wants to skin at the convention. The serious competitors normally bring yheir own animals.
Sewing legholes doesnt take much longer than nailing if you got a good needle.3-4 pokes in and out and tie a knot.

Is there any other way? grin

Yeah Boco, I guess when I think about it hooped beaver would need to have been sewn. I've never put up one that way. After all, if the mountain men found carrying around plywood boards was good enough for them, it's good enough for me.
