Mine rarely look like that. Heck, sometimes I can't even stay in the lines.

Just doing what I want now.

Looks great! Why do your beavers only have four leg holes? After fleshing some of mine have up to twice as many as that. G

Same thing that is up with the nails closing the leg holes.
Not necessary but keeps things neat and uniform in the stack.

mine are never that white, but ours are a different species.

When i put the nails in the legholes, the bottom edge overlaps the top edge, this way on the fur side, the fur from the top edge covers the bottom edge and the seam is less visible after brushing.

it all doesn't matter of course because beaver fur has little value here and the buyers don't care.

LOL. I nail mine the same way Tats. Nicer to brush when they go into the final bag before drop off.

Something about seeing holes in pelts that irks me,gotta sew pin or nail them shut.
You could leave the ears on,but since I dont grade out my tannery fur until all is done up,I just cut them all off.
When blocking tanned skins I always repair the ear holes with the other repairs. Its just easier for me to cut them out before tanning.

Tatiana, beaver and wolf are my favorite furs to work with.
We get a pretty nice beaver in my section, and the winnipeg tannery is probably the best beaver dressing facility in the world, the leather comes back perfectly uniform in thinness (garment quality).
Hats mitts and even parkas are warm and very durable. [Linked Image]

I wonder if those Patagonia beavers look like that. The original stock came from Canada they say.

I can only dream of catching beaver that nice.

Any bets that blanket Gd Dmg beats blanket SLT Dmg in price this go around? LOL

Beaver here have variable fur quality and color. They seem less glossy overall than yours, even the melanist ones. With no big predators they're an invasive species, many get all bitten even afer a day in the trap because of the overpopulation. Too few people target beaver. Our tanneries process lots of beaver skins though and their process is pretty elaborate. lots of big machinery specifically for fleshing, shaving, sanding, etc. Most skins are sheared and dyed, some are also bleached including to pure white. The leather comes out very soft, light and uniformly thick. The tannery I use doesn't care about handling. I've seen people deliver hundreds of skins, rough skinned and just salted (VERY rough) in blue 200 l drums, the tannery owner said most people overflesh or damage their beaver skins so they prefer to do the fleshing themselves.I've posted pictures and videos already, don't want to litter in your thread.
