Two female zookeepers are recovering in stable condition after being attacked by wolves at the Washington Park Zoo in Michigan City, Indiana. The incident occurred inside the animal enclosure on June 2, 2026, shortly after another wolf at the facility had passed away from natural causes.Incident OverviewThe Trigger: One zookeeper was performing standard duties inside the enclosure and requested the assistance of a second worker,
after which the situation escalated and two wolves attacked. The Injuries: A 39-year-old worker suffered severe, widespread bite wounds across her neck, torso, and limbs. A 34-year-old worker sustained a less severe bite wound to her forearm. The Rescue: The 39-year-old victim managed to escape the enclosure on her own. Firefighters had to climb the roof of an adjacent building and lower a
ladder into the exhibit to rescue the second worker, who was trapped inside with a third howling wolf.Current Status: Both victims were stabilized at Franciscan Health hospital. While the Washington Park Zoo remains open to the public, the main wolf exhibit is closed indefinitely while officials review the circumstances of the attack.Contextual BackgroundPreceding Events: In an unusual string of losses the night before
the attack, the zoo lost both a wolf to natural causes and a lemur to lung failure.Investigating Agencies: The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Department, alongside local law enforcement, are actively reviewing the exhibit's safety protocols and monitoring the remaining pack.I can provide more updates on this developing story if you would like. Are you looking for information regarding zoo safety protocols, wolf pack behavior changes after a death,

Wolves are just misunderstood. They are actually cuddly creatures that love living in captivity.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Re establishing the pecking order in the pack after the death of an older pack member.
Them women would be dead if it was predatory.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Let em go. Saddest thing I saw was the 3 at Calgary Zoo. I thought they were pups, but the info said they were all over 12 years old. Should be roaming 100s to 1000s of square miles living a heck filled 6 years, but they're stuck in these jails for city folk viewing pleasure.
Too many hold them at the mystic level, or at the other end of the spectrum........ that they're these crazed killers.......
Problem is, a lot of studies are done on these animals. That's where all these book smart university types get their data........from a captive wolf that's not acting like a wolf. Makes no sense.

If anyone hasn’t got this one in their collection, I’d highly recommend it!
Some experiences from raising and living with a wolf.
