Trying to start peppers in coffee cans .No store potting soil close by .What stuff in the woods would work ? Duff under conifers, under cottonwoods & quakies ,Rotten stump powder ? Why buy it at a store with a zillon acres of places to get it IF it will work . Will mix in with my garden dirt .Also got a big horse poop pile .Not worried about weeks .

You can ride a fast horse slow but you can't ride a slow horse fast .

Peppers prefer loam soil over all others. Loam gathered from the woods would work great, except for the weed seeds in it. If you stay up on pulling the weeds, it will work great for starting peppers.

This.

Or you can make great potting soil in a compost pile/box.
Nothing worth while comes free.

Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

It's June...why are you trying to start peppers now? With your short growing season I don't think they'll make it, even if you succeed..What am I missing?
