Milking the system is the Canadian way,,,, Still need a full time income ( be it retirement/ other job/ or scamming unemployment when you are self-employed) in order afford to trap.

Married a Cree woman 4o years ago, raised two kids in the trapping lifestyle. Missed more time with the family when I worked on the railroad than I ever did trapping.A lot of trapping time was family time and teaching the kids about self sufficiency. But I wear the pants in my family unlike you pantywaists who are run by your women, and you wonder what happened to young people today, lol.
I'm convinced Boco is a serious trapper. I must have had one back there in the day too. I found out i got a smidgen of Cree and Ojibwe in me. Probably accounts for the same amount of French they found.

HBC did allow country wives...that would explain..some of the trapping itch the French guaranteed way of determination is ;" if you talk and your hands wave"

Milking the system is the Canadian way,,,, Thats not "milking the system" it is the system. The system is set up to help seasonal workers.Alot of places people call home in remote Canada need that system. We are not the USA.And never will be.

You have no clue what freedom is. No limit here on the amount of fur I can catch except my physical ability.

You have no clue what freedom is. No limit here on the amount of fur I can catch except my physical ability. No limit, but you do have a quota A regulated quota, or you can lose your trap line How is that freedom? No limit on the amount of fur or lack of fur I can catch And all I need is permission from the landowner And I have millions of square miles of public land at my disposal Can you say the same?

Quotas are trapline specific and set by the trapper and the Fur tech for proper fur management. They are adjusted as necessary not on the price of pelts but for the management of the resource (gotta keep the line healthy)And I am the front line conservationist,no one else. And that is a responsibility I take seriously. I can trap anywhere since there is no restriction on how many traplines I can hold or trap on with permission;.I can only trap 4 rtls nowadays since I am 70 and cant run hard like when I was young. You see what freedom is now? I can also build cabins on my lines if I need them for harvesting fur. And my kids can build hunt or trap camps anywhere without any permissions because they are FN. Thats real freedom.

Alberta's hertage fund"Closer to home, Albertans can look to the example of the Alaska Permanent Fund. The Alaska fund, also founded in 1976, was valued at over US$89 billion in early 2026. Article content The Alaska fund has a built-in accountability mechanism of a $1,600 cash dividend per resident. This dividend gets smaller when the fund performs poorly, an outcome managers obviously want to avoid."

Boco, is a Fur tech a government biologist? Do they go over your lines with you every year or what? Do they do this with all registered lines? Just wondering.

Policies that classify or treat people differently based on race are incompatible with individual freedom You cannot extinguish inherent aboriginal rights no matter how much you wish you could. Simply put, they have rights that you do not and never will, and they are enshrined in the Constitution. Our ancestors signed legally binding treatys with FN peoples for mutual benefit. They wouldnt have been signed otherwise. We have benefitted greatly from those treatys so dont be a weasel and try to squirm out.
