Otters are much less fortune-ate than marten currently.

Too bad. Otter fur is so much nicer in garments than marten or sable, too few people appreciate it.

Otter bomber jackets are very nice.FHA used to sell those jackets thru the trap store and quite a few trappers bought them.
The thing with marten garments is that they are light weight and can be worn in less cold climate areas comfortably.
Not so with Otter.

I have both an otter coat and a beaver/sable coat. Both are very lightweight. The furriers who made them (they hadn't made any otter coats or beaver coats in a while) were surprised that the skins were so lightweight, the way tanneries process/sand the leather of otter and beaver pelts nowadays makes them very lightweight and versatile. Can't say that the otter coat is too warm. I like it more.

I've seen some older otter coats and they're often made like sealskin coats, vertical layouts, straight/sleek silhouettes, basically treated like heavy leather, design-wise. They look bulky and boring. Unlike seal fur, otter fur may be short but it has plenty of volume. Once this is taken into consideration in the layout of the coat, the fur really begins to shine.

And it's really a status issue. There are tons of identical-looking women with identical plastic surgery and identical sable coats in Moscow and at expensive skiing resorts. Everyone wants sable, those who can't afford sable buy marten or "Canadian sable" instead, it's just a standardized vanity item that parasitic women extort from rich men. Bobcat belly coats now, too.
