I have degenerative spinal disease. Vertebrae are brittle and breaking, slipped discs, stenosis and sciatic nerve pain. It slowly is getting worse for me. Not much to do for me. Neurosurgeons say surgery most likely would paralyze me.

My wife just had 2 disks replaced at C5 thru C7. She has severe stenosis. Only spent 1 night in the hospital. She says its better already

The best thing that ever happened for my back was the crashing of the beaver and coon markets. I haven't had much back pain since I stopped finishing fur about 10 years ago. I sure miss the fur shed....

Best of luck to you. Four years this month since surgery. Recovery has been slow and brutal. Ended up with nerve damage after surgery that has been a long slow rebuilding process

Yes, c3 &c4 repaired, still bad below. Bulged discs in lower back. Pretty much numb extremities, loss of strength, chronic pain, seems to be getting worse. Surgery didnt do near what I thought it would help, aint getting cut any more. I dont know what to tell you I guess surgery helps some people, I wasnt impressed with it but I am a basket case too so.......

I have the same issues as KCBlues with the same surgery out come. Last summer I had a spinal cord stimulator put in and am able to walk a little bit . It has helped allot with my leg pain and some with my back pain. The hard part is not doing what got you to this point in the first place. Old age isn't for sissies.

Sorry for all you guys that are or have been going through all of this. I'll just see how it goes I guess. Still plan on hitting the trapline as hard as I can next winter.

I've never had the opportunity to be sedentary. Always had to keep working to put food on the table. Not much has changed.

Usually they discover it when the person has complaints about back aches, sciatica, leg weakness, etc, but a lot of the time it's been there for many years or decades and quite often it's not what's causing the current annoying symptoms. Very often it's asymptomatic, or just worsens other things, so it's more of an accidental discovery. My dad has severe spinal stenosis in the lower spine, the MRI's really look awful, but he is pretty mobile and teaches yoga classes twice a week. Keeping active,working on your range of motion and minding your gait and postural habits is impotant. If you pity yourself too much, spine health will deteriorate very fast, it's almost worse than chronic overloading.

I have had off and on muscle cramps in each buttocks. It's been getting worse the last couple of years although sitting or laying down brings instant relief. I may look into CBD for relief.

Thats pretty much the odds right there. Boco It happened like right now, it came on fast. Thought I was working smarter. I was rolling along pretty good then poof, I couldnt turn my car ignition keys. Wouildnt wish this on anyone.

Was done in the late '90s. Worked good but slowly coming back. My numbness is slowly going away---to me that is amazing, now only the bottom of my feet are nimb. . Have a slight limp but do get around still and am planning to trap this year still. Never give up!!!!

So many people could limit back pain or injury by strengthening their core stabilizing muscles. Plank variations and heavy front loaded carries. Mix in some decompression and it would limit a lot of problems md’s wanna put a knife to or give pills for-it’s all they know.

Wish I had read something like this in september. Had surgery in October. Ain't doing so well. I can hardly walk. Bad balance and strength issues. Getting worse. Looking for help from U of I hospital,. L2 3 4 5 and S1. Right now I'm afraid I'm wheelchair bound. Thanks for the info guys. just

For those of you who are pre-surgery there is hope. My wife is involved with a company right now who is in phase 3 of FDA clinical trials for a stem cell injection that will totally regrow a disc or repair a degenerative disc. They are the first company to make it this far in FDA trials. I can't explain it in medical terms, but this stem cell has already been developed to the point that when it's injected, it's already in phase four of five phases (a typical stem cell would have to go through all five phases in your body before it works, with the the fifth phase correcting the problem. Often times they fail in phase 2-4)

They have an out of country location that they are injecting humans with now and have had 100% success rate with it. My wife is only one of a few who work for this company to screen patients for the FDA study. Of those who qualify, half will get the real injection and the other half a sham injection. The way things are looking now we think this will make it through the last clinical trial and will eventually come to market in the US, at which point insurance will pay for it. It will be one of the biggest breakthroughs in medical history. Millions and millions of people suffer from degenerative disc problems.

If you want to go out of country right now and have the injection you can but it's a fairly expensive medicine.

If you'd like to know more shoot me a PM. If you're a potential candidate for the study you would probably have to come to St Louis to be screened. I don't believe there's any cost associated with it.

Edit: I should add that this FDA trial is only for lower lumbar. Once this one passes they will move to upper back and then to the neck. That could be several years away.

I was diagnosed with cervical stenosis a few years ago,,, and I wound up severely depressed because I wasn’t used to not being able to be who I was and the pain was unbearable at times.
I have bone spurs that are severely narrowing my spinal canal which constricts my spinal cord.
I started getting spinal injections in my neck which did help… but I had to stop taking them after I had a very close call with blood clots forming in both of my lungs.

I was placed on several different medications to help with my pain…

Now comes the amazing part…
I was really bad mentally… and I decided I would get rebaptized and start living right because I was not the Christian I should have been.
About 2 weeks later,,, my pain started to alleviate and I was able to start doing things again… and eventually return to work.
Coincidence?? Call it what you want…
But I believe I was given an amazing gift.
I don’t know why I was chosen,,, because there’s people more deserving than me..
But nonetheless….

The spine surgeon told me that when I could no longer tolerate the pain we would consider surgery. That was 27 years ago! Most painful thing I do all day is get out of bed! After that thing loosen up and I’m fine.

Side note for younger T man members: I would suggest for long term health just to carry one deer at a time over your back for a mile out to your rig. Makes it easier to get out of bed in your old age.

I had a bad back pain for three months. CT scan showed nothing. No kidney or bladder stones. During a routine visit with cardiologists, we decided to stop my daily statin (Lipitor). After two weeks the pain stopped. Switching to a low dose of Crestor in a few days.

Many people have muscle pains from statins. Odd that I did this year because I have taken Lipitor for thirty years.

Are you still taking the pain medication?

I went off of Rosuvastatin for three months to see if that would relieve my muscle cramps. It didn't, and my cholesterol shot up 50 points. Back on it now.

Going to John Hopkins July 2 to have 4 vertebrae fixed w/ screws and support and have old scar tissue removed... 4 hour operation. I had 3 below these done in '07 and they held up pretty good except for the scar tissue. I did PT and took the spinal shots w/ no relief at all. Mine is a mess. Local neurosurgeon wouldn't touch it and referred me to a hotshot at JH... hope for the best... Good luck w/ yours.

I have spinal stenosis, degenerative disc desease(think am saying that correctly), L1, 4 & 5 are bone on bone, not much pain right now but it has gotten worse, am starting to get some numbness in my feet and some balance issues. My dad had it so it’s hereditary for me. He had surgery to remove some of the arthritis and they nicked his spinal cord. Had dropsie in his left foot from then on which caused him other issues walking.

My grandfather was a Swedish immigrant stone cutter. In his thick Swedish accent he always complained about the "rhematics" and had to walk with a cane and usually carried a little bar stool around to rest upon. I'm thinking we have/had the same thing.

I’ve never carried out more than one deer at a time!! I did carry out a nice fork horn buck and two beaver one time. Only a little over 1/4 mile but I never want to do that again.
