BP,

I ruptured my L4-L5 disc 22 years ago. I have been told I need a steel plate or rod and that 2 or 3 need fused together. I started walking and slowly the pain eased a bit. I still walk and walk. Every day weather permitting I'm usually walking. 36 holes on the golf course or 4 miles around the house. I've not had the surgery and I'm able to keep the pain down to where it is tolerable. When I first did it I couldn't put my socks on and I was in misery every minute. I could barely walk but gradually as the weeks passed it slowly improved. After a couple years I started bowling and golfing again.

WALK!!!

I forgot to add that 3 years ago I took a shot directly into my spine. That helped a lot but it has worn off long ago. If it gets too bad in the future I will get another shot.

I think disc rupture and spinal stenosis are 2 different things.

Im lucky, I have both. Stenosis in the upper neck area, bottom half of my discs are bulged. My discs were bulged a long time ago and I still walked as much as anybody. Once the stenosis set in, walking is VERY limited.

I got a laminectomy to remedy my spinal stenosis. Been pain free for six years now. Forget the shots.

I have zero pain sitting or laying down... never without pain when I'm on my feet.

My findings too. No pain but the numb, dull tingling feelings are still present. Seems like the weight bearing down puts pressure on the back/legs.

In 2018 I was having severe low back pain. MRI showed stenosis on both sides at L5-S1. I did some research and went to a pain management clinic in Salt Lake. They gave me a Renenexx reatment that really helped. They drew about 40 viles of my blood , spun it down and injected the platelet rich plamsa (PRP therapy) into my problem areas. It was not covered by insurance but worked well. This last year my sciatic pain - right hip got so bad I ended up going to an orthopedic surgeon to see about a hip replacement. He looked at my xrays and did an evaluation and said he didn't think a hip replacement would solve my problem (he was wrong) and that my stenosis at L5-S1 was the problem. A Neurosurgeon agreed that fusion at L5-S1 would stop the sciatic hip pain. I got the surgery. And still have the hip pain. An MRI of my right hip shows I have lost the blood supply to my hip joint (avascular necrosis) and it's been dieing for months. I'm getting the hip replacement surgery I should have gotten last fall on the 23rd.

If you have pack pain look into Regenexx PRP therapy treatments before surgery.

Each day is a gift. LIVE IT with gratitude.

I still don't have a definitive diagnosis. I'm getting an MRI scheduled. But it looks like this is what the deal is so I'll be looking into treatments. Sure appreciate everyone's suggestions!

Have a buddy that had a debilitating bad back for years. So much so that he got a permanent disability diagnosis. He went thru all the best back surgeons in Canada and the USA and they could not totally fix his bad back.
Finally he went to Germany on recommendation from the top specialists here.
He had back surgery done in Germany and is totally cured of all back problems.
It only cost him the price of a new truck but well worth it to get rid of his over 20 year total disability.
Just saying you always got options.Dont settle for only one or two medical opinions.

Shoot, maybe I'll just go to Germany first and eliminate the middlemen. I know in Sweden they've done a lot of work on growing out what you need from stem cells.

I'm a believer in bar stool therapy as it works well for me, but I never thought of carrying one with me. Does the bartender just follow along?
