BP,

I ruptured my L4-L5 disc 22 years ago. I have been told I need a steel plate or rod and that 2 or 3 need fused together. I started walking and slowly the pain eased a bit. I still walk and walk. Every day weather permitting I'm usually walking. 36 holes on the golf course or 4 miles around the house. I've not had the surgery and I'm able to keep the pain down to where it is tolerable. When I first did it I couldn't put my socks on and I was in misery every minute. I could barely walk but gradually as the weeks passed it slowly improved. After a couple years I started bowling and golfing again.

WALK!!!

I forgot to add that 3 years ago I took a shot directly into my spine. That helped a lot but it has worn off long ago. If it gets too bad in the future I will get another shot.

I think disc rupture and spinal stenosis are 2 different things.

They are. My last MRI 3 years ago showed stenosis also.

Im lucky, I have both. Stenosis in the upper neck area, bottom half of my discs are bulged. My discs were bulged a long time ago and I still walked as much as anybody. Once the stenosis set in, walking is VERY limited.

I got a laminectomy to remedy my spinal stenosis. Been pain free for six years now. Forget the shots.
