Lol I think im going have to call because im not sure what is even in season at that time, and if we needed a license or if you run off a charter license? I told her I would have called and booked it if she would have gave me dates so I could ask questions but she had to be miss Independent.

call them and ask the questions you have about license and what you should bring. I will say always bring a sweatshirt or jacket anytime on Michigan even in August

Chinook aka King salmon , Rainbows and Lake trout are common Lake Michigan catches in August

We fish the other side of the lake on the WI side Kenosha up to Oak Creek

in August it all depends on the water temps but it is not uncommon to run out 15 miles and get into 200+ feet of water.

My son fishes out of Kewaunee (WI) and in fact - driving my truck camper over the next Friday. As Pete suggested, call the charter captain and ask what you need for a legal license and possible add on stamps.
Here in WI we're required to buy an additional Great Lakes Trout and Salmon stamp ($10) to accompany our fishing license.
As was also recommended - bring an extra flannel shirt or jacket, rain gear if the forecast suggests it, etc. Weather and temps can change quickly on big water.

You'll have a blast.

Kings are starting that time, but lakers, steelhead, cohos are all around.

You'll have to buy a license. You can get a 24 hr one. Think it's $10. Covers all species. You can buy it online the night before.

South Haven has a great beach too for down time. It always gets voted best beach in the state.

Have fun!

Thanks guys. I looked it up on the guys page, we do need to buy a license, have to check with ages if the kids will need one. I plan on calling the guy myself I will ask about stamps I would never have thought of that. The guy had some good reviews, so just hope to get on something for my son, this is all he wanted to do was fish. The wife said she's not going fishing, however lol with the cost she is fishing so we can try and get her limit as well.

the Great Lakes Salmon and trout stamp is a great lakes thing , the salmon and trout are stocked so you are paying into the pool for stocking.

on this side of the lake under 16 don't need a license , but check the MI regs

most captains have a spot that is fishing is hard they can go find you a Laker

this was Sept 7 out of Racine WI , it was the day we took dad's boat out of the water for the season. that was my only 2025 fish on the big lake that year was busy and didn't get out till the last day he had the boat in the water , I had just suited up to pressure wash the boat and figured better get a picture of the fish.
the WI-DNR has a nice pressure washer setup in Racine to blast all the crud off the bottom of the hull of the boat , we do it twice a season generally
pulled the boat early in 2025 dad was having heart surgery mid September and wanted it all put away for the year before his surgery.
