I spent a summer in the Yukon, closest towns were Dawson and Eagle Alaska, was a couple hours to each. Does that classify as remote enough? It was during the summer so maybe it doesn't count

Did you have to run a generator for electricity? Electricity? You mean the small solar panel that charged a satellite phone we didn't use?

Sat phone? Now your getting remote. You are probably already tougher than Boco.
P.S. Did you have blue board for your outhouse seat? Best choice IMHO for winter sittings.

There is a reason old people move south. Not tough enough anymore to handle living in the harsher conditions that require constant work. You can drive to a couple of my places but it takes work.

The few that could handle the isolation from conveiniences and the extra work would likely never be able to handle the politics in the North.(no right wingnuts here) So like I said very few Americans could handle it for various reasons.

I probably couldn't. Three years in the tropics ignited the latent lazy genes. Plus drilling holes in water to pull beaver out of never appealed.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I am not sure what kind of response you are looking for with all these posts? You are a stud? The rest of us are inferior trash? Americans are lazy? I will say this, as cold and miserable as the North is, the heat and humidity in the South are as brutal of more. You can put more layers on for the cold but you can only take so many off. I was on a fire in Lake Havasu on the 4th of July and the ambient air temp was 117. We couldn't even start the turbine on the helicopter because of the heat and the skids sank into the asphalt. I bet there are a bunch of the AK boys that could give you a run for your money.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Boco, I suspect your winters don't compare to ours here in the interior.
You would be correct there.\ Quite a bit colder here.Mean avg jan temp in fairbanks is minus 17c Mean avg jan temp in moosonee is minus 25c ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/06/full-11679-295117-screenshot_20260614_224429_samsung_browser.jpg) It looks like in reality, Fairbanks is about 6C colder average mean January temperature....

Under Canada's C-3 law I'm already considered a Canadian citizen, all I have to do is submit the paperwork and a $75 fee to get dual citizenship. Can anyone think of benefits or possible pitfalls of doing this? as am I , I have relatives looking into it for me it would be interesting for border crossing to have dual citizenship as I understand it , it also would let us camp on some of the lakes my family used to visit but were told it was crown land for citizens only at some point. but for my family that does more international travel they are more interested , there are places that are easier to travel on a Canadian passport I guess.

Spend a couple hours at a border crossing while they snoop through your entire vehicle including your wife's underwear just because your buddy applied for a gun permit, that is when you sense what your rights are worth. Then go to the one gas station or grrocery store every 500 miles, all that are all owned by people who can not speak French or English . Then if you run out of beer, you have to find a govt run store with govt hours to get you sum. Then talk to the Outfitter as he explains the maze of rules you need to follow to fill a tag, Then watch as "first nations' shoot what ever, when ever from where ever. Scenery and remoteness , hunting and fishing are great, but I would never could not live there.
Just the right amount of whelm.

with this change to the you don't have to live in Canada to be a legal citizen. some of Canada's most well known citizens don't live in Canada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_Americanswhen ever you are looking at a change there is probably a list of names behind the why. many well known Canadians whom have lived in the US a long time , their grandkids would not be Canadian Citizens and thus it would be harder for them to take their grandkids "home" two fold , Canada has been importing new residents for a while and it hasn't been the best importing them from places around the world. So why not make it easier for people of Canadian lineage to return home from a generation or two out.

Someone’s feeding you a line of BS. But it’s probably best to pack up and move somewhere else depending on what area you were camping. Camping in some beautiful areas in Manitoba can get you into some real hot water with the locals, even though it’s legal.

Reality isn’t one of his strong points
According to google my numbers are correct. Also the record cold temp for eastern North america was set in the 30s in Iroquois falls, about 40 miles south east of here at minus 73f.

Donnersurver I think some of you seem a little sensitive or have a problem with reading comprehension. Come on up north Donner and give it a shot-guaranteed the climate and remoteness of the north will decide. To clarify I said MOST American not all, What percentage of Americans do you think could survive and thrive in your area?

No Americans here ,My daughter in law lives in Timmins and likes it.Sje is the only American I know of that lives there Americans used to come to Cochrane and Timmins a lot to hunt bear in spring-used to see lots of american plates in town back in the day-Plates were from NY Penn,Ohio,Michigan,Minnesota Wisc, and some from illinois and some from Indiana.never see that anymore since the 90s. Never see any here ever in winter. The highway is closed quite a bit here in winter so easy to get stranded for quite a while sometimes.
