Please see diagram, I labeled all wires with numbers hopeing someone can tell me what numbers go together? [Linked Image]

I can’t find any wiring diagram where the light comes out of the same switch box as Lutron dimmer and the 3 way is just acting. As a switch, all diagrams show light after the 3 way and I don’t have it wired that way, I’m sure it’s possibile but stumped

It would be wonderful if some could assist me with the numbers on my diagram, because I don’t know how to accomplish what I have with a typical 3 way diagram like Gary posted

The breaker box has nothing to do with a 3 way except for power

Box 1 is switch box that has power (line) coming in, wire to light (load) and 3 way wire to other switch. The Lutron diva goes in that switch box.

Can you do me a solid and explain how to wire it ?

It should be pretty straight forward with google & the instructions with the switch. What the heck’s a Lutron Diva?
I know sometimes these fancy dimmer switches just don’t work, even the type of LED bulb can screw things up. Seen it in brand new houses during final inspection.

take the clutter out

all your greens go together wire nut and box tie if metal box

all your whites go together wire nut

so you have power
and the switched leg to the light

and the pair that run switch to switch

the better way to think of a 3 way switch is that it is not a ON/OFF switch , it is an Other terminal switch

so you have 3 terminals and the switch switches one screw between the other 2 screws (if your switch has a ground ignore that it is not critical to the function of the switch do still tie it to all your grounds)

on one switch it is power , and 2 travelers or switched legs

on the other switch it is 2 traverlers/ switched legs and the output to the light

when you flip a 3 way switch which frankly is a bad name it is 2 way switch it just isn't and on/off switch which is really more of a one way switch

you switch between the traveler legs depending on which way the other switch is one or the other is hot.

Also usually a three way switch, has 1 screw , that is a different color. This goes to power, or the light , beyond. the other two screws , go to the travellers. . This is clear as mud, to most people . Quite simple once you get the hang of it . Now try to wire a 4 way switch. Petes drawing , is correct. old 243

Guys, thank you for your help. But I can’t seem to figure this out I have done 3 ways before, but I can’t say I can do one without looking up a diagram, for some reason this is throwing me, and it adds complications for me when I have this Lutron diva dimmer switch in equations. Please see revised drawings and pictures, I have tried to wire this in just about every scenario and I can’t get it to work 100 percent, best I could was the both would work but if one was on the other would not shut off. Can I please ask (beg ) for some to tell me what numbers go together than to give me a diagram of a 3 way? I don’t mean to be ungrateful, but seem like I can’t overcome this.

2 to 9
1 to 4
5 to 12
6 to 13
10 to 14
8,3,11,7 and bond to the box if metal
This is in the junction box

At the regular three way the black wire #4 has to go to the odd color (common) of the three way and the travelers each go to a separate same colored terminal which would be 5 and 6 because they are your travelers in this wire, the white wire #6 is not a neutral like the other white wires and do not connect it to them.

Wasn’t sure if you had seen the wizard, I’ve always had trouble with three way switches.

Careful. Sometimes that neutral is hot……lol
It’s so much easier from new.
Take it all apart, and rewire the box from start might be easier. Before you start screwing things together, make sure you know exactly what each wire does. Start by connecting all your bonds to clean things up a bit.

Is it a 3 way dimmer ? If it is you have to have a regular 3way on the opposite side and the hot goes on the dimmer switch . If you are using LED’S make sure the dimmer is rated for them .
