I am going to be getting a new mattress for a new bunk in a small cabin. The size is twin. I have seen alot of new mattresses that need no boxsprings. They come shipped in a box all tightly rolled up wrapped in tight plastic wrap. Serta makes several models like what I described. Anybody ever buy a "mattress in a box". Kinda of something I have never been around. Thanks !!

A friend bought a Casper. I have never slept on it. He likes it.

A lot of them will be shipped in a box, or bag in a box, they're vacuumed packed so takes up little room. and don't really need a boxspring, just a solid platform.
Most, if not all, will be a sort of memory foam, or sandwich of layers of various foams...takes a few hours to plump back up, even overnight sometimes...being mostly foam, they sleep hot, all the gimmicks that claim to help that problem is mostly merchandising, it's foam, it's an insulation, they're hot, and don't breath very well...but that's most beds anymore...price is all over the map, especially the big name brands with all their advertising...Firmness is subjective, they'll claim different levels of firmness but I found there's not a lot of difference..

I would recommend one with a firm edge, for sitting on the bed without falling off...

Hey NebrCatMan, we’ve bought a few of those. Queens and doubles. They work fine.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I bought new ones like that for all 3 of my kids this year. They like them and they work well. I bought one at a time to try them out. My oldest son preferred a more solid firmness the other to med on the scales on the box.

I bought two of those twins the OP described, for a cabin, I suppose they are okay, a little chintzy though. But they are for two of my younger crewmen, they'll be okay with them, it's better than the alternative; a plywood bunk.

They're decent, but they're pretty warm in the summer. That's my only gripe though, they're good for the money.

We’ve bought two from Amazon. I think they are tea tree or something like that. One for our guest bedroom and one for,the beach house. No one has complained yet.

I bought a platform for my new queen size in a box mattress. Been sleeping on it for 18 months, no complaints.

bought a king from Walmart several years back (since I could return it if I needed). Best mattress I every had. Better than the $3,000 mattress I was using. It cost me $425 at the time. I purchased a few on line for a cabin I have in NY. No complaints from anyone. Just let it expand over night to the full height.

yes , I have 2 at hunting camp
they are ok for a few nights and I did buy fairly cheap ones , but they inflate over a day after you take them out of the vacuum bag

for me I lay down and there is zero movement like no rolling over I sort of settle into it no moving

my brother has gotten a few some for his camper some for his house

I prefer a traditional mattress to foam but some people are exactly the opposite

Ive had a memory foam queen for a long time. Very firm support, but still yields in the right areas. It is the nicest I've ever had. I'll never have a coil spring or anything else than this foam . I couldn't ask for any better. It came in a bag too.

Hey all... Thanks for the comments! I ordered a Twin XL Serta Beachway 10.5" thick firm model and it should be here in a week or so, Right now I am sleeping on a foam pad from a hide-a-bed with an old folding cot pad on top of the foam... then a thick comforter folded in half and finally my -20 degrees over sized sleeping bag zipped shut..... all stacked one on the other. Covered with a flat sheet. I had back fusion surgery in Jan and had a new hip June 11th and really that pile of foam and comforter/sleeping bag is working great, Since my new hip last Thursday I am sleeping like a baby....of course I am taking 2 Tylenol before bedtime. Hope this new mattress is as good as my cobbled stack of foam/comforted/sleeping bag !!!!
