Nobody here likes 30 or 40 below ever. We suffer through it.

you just need to cut mustard to stay warm or something like that, not sure exactly how it works, hoping Boco will teach me now that I'm Canadian

For sure but it's tolerable when it's short term although we don't see minus 40 all that often in NW MN

Minus 20 is easy to deal with minus 25 is ok. Those periods when the highs are minus 20 for a week or 2 can drag on. The kids go to school in shorts at 10 below.
For the life of me I don't know how anyone can put up with 80 degrees and 80 percent humidity at 5 am for days and days.

I'd rather live in Siberia

Cold weather is way more tolerable than the heat of summer. Manitoba is nice in a sense we get all 4 seasons! Christmas wouldn’t be the same without snow. (Christmas in the South looks like a joke) (no offence)

Not much money to be made in Manitoba though unless you’re into real estate, construction, or some high end profession. Teachers get paid way better here than in the States.

Canada is becoming over populated. So I’d say stay out!

But it sure is worth BEING Canadian!

I've worked in -60 to 100. You sweat like pig at 100 especially in the hay mow, but it is way better than working in 25 below or more. Things just start getting real painful and slow at 30 below. We are talking Fahrenheit for the Canadian tough guys. As far as trapping, the catch goes to crap at 30 below here. A month of 30 below is a month lost. Maybe the season.

When I worked on the track on the moosonee line a week or two of minus 60 created a lot of work. The rails would snap after each train (one train north and back south at night).had to patrol behind each train when it got below minus 40/Hydraulics would not work and small engines like railsaws, bolt machines and drill had to be stored and started in the heated toolhouse and kept running during transport. The railroad could have saved a bunch of money if they just shut down the service during those cold periods.
It wasnt as bad when we got the trucks in the 90s but when we used the motor cars it was rough.especially riding back after sweating for a couple hours changing broken rail using fusees for light.
I also laid CWR in summer and the rail thermometers often read 120f between the rails.
The spikers and anchormen had to eat a lot of salt pills.

I my relatives figured out how to stay warm on those cold Manitoba nights , it resulted in 16 kids.

Two weeks in North Pole, Alaska in January 1989 was not short term. It stayed between -50 and -70 for the whole two weeks. I'd still rather be in that climate than here where it was 102 ambient two days ago.
