Is was the upselll attempt. The are you sure and lots of goodies here in the store comment most likely ticked him off. You're in a small town so he's probably been in there many times and is aware of what you have. He may be a little low on funds right now and wanted to grab a container of fruit salad that he likes. Maybe he had other things on his mind and didn't appreciate the upsell attempt and implying that he wasn't buying enough to warrant a transaction. Did you ever think maybe it was his third trip in and he had already bought the other stuff he needed and his wife was nagging him for forgetting the fruit salad?

I know most on here change the oil in their own vehicles but that is in line with the oil change place asking do you want this or that when you just want an oil change. An example is do you want an injector cleaner service where they'll unscrew the fuel cap and dump a 5 dollar bottle of injector cleaner and only charge you 20 dollars for it.

When I travel and stop at a place for a coffee and maybe an item to eat it bugs the heck out of me when they say "do you want to add this and add that and make it this"
I dont get mad,I just ask them with a smile if they have a hearing problem and didnt hear what I ordered.
I think they are instructed by the owners to push more stuff at people.I would never get mad at a young person doing those jobs.

I'm with Boco on this. Almost every grocery store or fast-food place around here asks if you want to round up to donate to local school functions or some other cause. Even when you buy a hunting or trapping license here, they ask if you want to donate something extra for wildlife habitat. I do get tired of it, but I just always reply with a simple "No thanks." The guy could have simply said, I'm sure.

Worked at a gas station in high school, worst job I ever had in my life. People were unbelievable and that was 1986.

Thanks for the advice,,, I guess I wasn’t cognizant of the upsell thing… but I can definitely see the point you guys are making.I’ll absolutely remember that when I have to run the register.

And now we have little choice with the new "No pennies" thing. You get screwed 1-4cents every transaction, even tho they're supposed to round up over 3 cents.
