I am also huge and apparently scary looking. People also get out of my way and are polite. Little kids like me though and want to talk to me. I do look someone Santa like.

I sometimes wonder if there's something hard wired into children into liking large, heavily bearded men.

or maybe that it is just that we take the time to see the kids and look at them and smile maybe wave .

A mother with a young child are on a bus, and the kid keeps throwing glances at a big, impressive, heavily bearded man sitting across the isle. The man notices it and decides to talk to the child, and starts asking questions loudly. "Tell me, kid, I must resemble someone you know". The kid blushes and stays silent. "Oh, it must be your grandfather, right?". The boy shakes his head, barely noticeably. "Oh, then it must be a relative of some kind, probably an uncle?....... -No.... -Must be a fairy tale villain, right?". The boy is standing very still, staring into the floor, and keeps shaking his head. "Oh, I know! Santa, right??".... another small head shake... The whole bus is watching by now, and the man asks loudly: "Who is it then?? Tell me!!!". The boy hesitates and answers in the smallest voice: "....it's mommy's lady bits...."

Same here, Pete. People around here are really nice.

Around here only folks store employees are polite to are the tourist if you're a local you'd be lucky to get the time of day, used to be folks would nod, wave or just acknowledge drivers of on coming vehicles, now make sure you are to the far right of your lane. People might be humans but have lost their humanity

I found just the opposite. It seems a lot more folks in the south that wait on you think they're doing you a favor. Don't thank you even if you thank them.
Almost every store I shop at up here you get thanked and told to have a nice or wonderful day. Doesn't get much better than that.

I know what you guys are talking about. I've been in line at Sam's Club with a pretty full cart only to have a person behind me in line with alot less items. I will tell them they don't have that many items just move ahead of me. They smile and thank me. I've learned that behavior from others I've seen do it there. Lots of kind, courteous people.

There's rude people everywhere, north, south, east and west, ...generally, folks here are mostly ok, will hold the door for you, will smile and acknowledge you, etc....The new city people are strange, either ignoring and look down on the locals, or over try to fit in...
I find if you look them in the eye and acknowledge them most people will respond in kind....only really rude ones are young adults, and teenagers...mamas never taught them manners...or it never took.

Many times when in line with a cart full or not, if the person in front of me has only a few items and no cart, I will ask if they want to drop their plunder in my cart so's they don't have to hold it in the line. Most appreciate it, I've even had folks offer to pay for my stuff if I don't have too much.
