Bruce, I tried lobster roll while in Maine over the past Christmas season. I was really anticipating something good...boy, was I disappointed. It was a highly respected joint south of Rockland, cant remember the name of it. Apparently, there are two very distinct styles of lobster roll...one is served cold with a mayonnaise based cream sauce and the other is served warm with traditional butter (popular farther down the coast).
Needless to say, I choked the cold version down, not wanting to waste any of the $50 sandwich. If I try lobster roll again, it will be served warm with melted butter...hopefully it will be better smile

On a side note, enjoyed our time there. Son was stationed on Coast Guard cutter in Rockland....wish he was still there, would have liked to visit in summer months as well....

Try a grilled cheese with crab. Add a dash of horseradish and a dill pickle. Served on sourdough ! Far superior to lobster roll

The sandwiches look great to me. How much were they? Around here they are obscenely expensive. I would guess Maine prices are much better. The quality and freshness is probably better in Maine too.

I've been in a few of those little country stores, that have a restaurant and always had good food at them. I used to get some really good breaded and fried, pork tenderloin sandwiches at one.

I’ve had Lobster 3 times from 3 different restaurants. Didn’t care for any of it.

The next time I try Lobster it will be on the East coast. If I don’t like it there, I never will!!

Yep, 50....cant take it with you. Figured better try something that Maine is famous for. Half pound sandwich...seemed more like five pounds trying to choke it down. Lol

My buddy and his girlfriend just got back from Maine, and he said they paid $60/lobster roll.
