I had 3 deer stands that had reached their 20-25 year life expectancy. One was just torn down and decommissioned. Two others needed to be rebuild. I finished one today and hope to get the other done yet this week. On a "normal" year I can't even get to them this time of year. Some years the water is over your knees but this year is VERY dry so I took advantage of that. I did these on the cheap with what materials I had rather than go buy new stuff. When they need to be rebuild again in 20-25 years, it will be someone else's problem. The framing and sheeting goes fast, the tin work takes time. The next one will have an outhouse under it but this one is too low to the ground for that.

And of course all stands need a "relief tube" as you get older.

I have nothing clever to put here.

It's good that senior citizens like yourself can hide in warm little huts and wait comfortably for a deer to come to the corn pile. I'm happy for you, old timer.

160, if you take half of one of your Viagra, it ought to keep the boots dry.

Glad I could help.

160,
How noisy is that box...with the metal on it?

I'm thinking of building a couple similar.

I feel bad you guys dont have trees big enough for a real deer stand up there, makes for alot of extra work to shot a deer.

The annual spring gathering of the pee jugs is something I won't miss!

They aren't. Some have just tin and they creak and groan a little with temperature change but of course they are there all year so they deer get used to them. This "evolution" has plywood, tarpaper and then tin so I doubt there will be much noise at all. Plywood, even painted rarely lasted over 5 years here in the Cedar swamps. Like I said, many of my "good "stands I can only get to when the ground is frozen. The ones that are easy to get to, are easy to maintain but normally only produce does and fawns. The ones in the "nasty stuff" are where the bucks I am looking for tend to be during the daylight.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I killed my gobbler this spring with my back to a white pine that was well over a hundred feet tall. We've got big enough trees, 160 is just too old and frail to climb them.

If I wanted to shoot a deer, I could do that most any day out of any window of the house. I enjoy deer hunting and typically look for a specific buck. Of course we don't have the big bodied bucks like you do, just runts.

Or I am smart enough to sit in something that is 70 degrees, out of the wind and dry. I can only shoot one anyway so I want as much time out there as I can get. Once I shoot, the season is over.

Plenty of trees....but the shooting houses are some nice for rifle hunting.

Sounds like u should just consider gentleman's club instead, sounds like it would fill the same criteria

Being in the elements is half the fun! It always feels better to kill a buck after you've been frozen for a week and a half, makes you feel like you earned it.

But I will admit that heated shacks, reclining chairs, Internet connection, and plastic stocked rifles do make things easier.

I'm just happy that you old farts are still getting out there.

Slip in and out....quietly & undetected. The view out front (to the right in this pic) is 200 yds long X 30 yds wide.

The freshly planted (on June 1st) plot out front is plot screen (Egytptian wheat and such.)
