I don't use the dogless but use the dog on #5 and really like that trap. I would think the dogless would be fine also.

My take....very good traps, well built and have taken a pile of beaver in the dogless, dog on and double long spring Bridger #5 traps.
Use them right out the box.

If you’re talking DLS, the Duke 5 is upgraded out of the box with Baseplated D ring and PIT pans where the Bridger 5DLS is plane jane.
I’ve got both but love the Duke with the PIT set up for beaver. They’re the same price here too so it’s a no brainer.
The only #5 Bridget coil I have is the one I got from STA auction. It was used in certification testing for wolf and still all dirty.

Shakey, did you manage to catch a wolf or two in that trap?

I think they are fine traps. I have taken a bunch of Spring beaver in castor sets with them. I will say when I buy more traps I have been buying No-BS beaver extremes. I really like those. They are similarly priced.

Nope. I was the winning bidder at the STA auction a few years ago. They used to give out B5s that were used by the evaluators back when they actually tested them in the field, to the winner of the wolf prep contest. I got the last one. I’ll donate it back to the association in 10 or 20 years. It went straight to the display shelf the way I got it, all dirty, with an info sheet about its history.
There is a few trappers that use em for wolf though. It was our first approved trap for wolf, that was actually kinda built for them. I think enegmaticgwetchin uses them.

I've used the regular B5 coilsprings for beaver for years. Good trap.

Never used the dogless version, but anytime you can go dogless you have a better trap. No foot throwing dog and a faster trap is a win-win. Especially that Bridger dogless pan mechanism.
