This year at the Bozeman trap meet I will be doing another presentation. Last year I gave a talk on Hart traps, this year it will be on the #4 1/2 Newhouse Wolf trap. It will be the history and an open discussion, so bring your traps that you want to share or have questions about. Hope to see you there!
Dean

Dean, I think you are gonna have a great turnout from what I have heard.... Sounds like a westward migration of trucks full of iron and pockets full of paper will be headed your way next week...

What are your thoughts on this link connecting the chain to the swivel? Factory? Appears to have a casting sprue on one side...

Another bucket list meet I wish I could attend, ESPECIALLY with the 4 1/2 portion. Hope someone takes photos at this one and posts them. Good luck Dean, hope you have a big turnout.

Dale, I have several Oneida Community traps with that style cast cold shut. I can't say for sure that they are factory, but if you look at the context of its use, they may be. The closed eye swivel was used with the long link chain, being connected with a forged long link. The next chain was the cast figure 8 chain, they attached this new chain to the closed eye swivel again with a forged long link until they came out with the coldshut eye swivel a short time later. The long link chain changed to the cast figure 8 about 1872. And, the cut link American chain didn't come about until 1879. A lot of traps were sold without chains, but did come with a swivel.
