Always had to get our fisher sealed.

We are down to a limit of 2.

I don't even bother anymore.

My best season was 11...and we only have the month of December to target them...

No bag limit ..must be fun !!

But...I see you have some short windows ....

About time for CNY and the Finger Lakes, and the fur should be good during those dates

this is one of the dumbest things they've done yet, the fur might be a touch better

but good luck trying to get farmers to let you trap during the first week or two of rifle season

i'll loose every peice of private i have, then in a few months, everyone will be complaining deer hunters stole their fur on stateland

and on top of that, they kept bobcat season the first 2 weeks of november, if we get 2 weeks for cats and 2 weeks for fisher, make them the same (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) two weeks

I do not agree with the marten season dates. They could have opened that Nov. 15th as well. I trap marten in remote areas of the Adirondacks during deer season. That will end anyone being able to do that now, because deer season closes there the first Sunday in December. Curtailing the marten harvest is probably the DEC’s goal anyway.

Yes most of western NY has them to some degree. Didn't think id see a season in the part of region 9G that im in either.
We don't have alot but I see them. Im in the grape belt and don't have the as much of the wooded terrain they like around here.
As soon as I travel a little ways to the foothills I see more sign and have caught a few.

There's a lot to this change that is unfortunate for some of us that actually trap fisher/marten in any number. An opening day in the southern zone this year on thanksgiving morning (second busiest deer hunting day of the season) will undoubtedly cost folks private access and further increase the crowding and issues on public that anyone that traps much knows exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe half of the years seasonal roads are completely inaccessible at this time in November through much of the state. Certainly tug hill and central ADKs will be extremely limited more years than not for much of the open season. Not to mention fisher are pretty well satiated with gut piles and deer carcasses 10 days into the southern zone rifle season. A chunk of beaver probably wont be the attraction it usually is. Sure the pelts will be a bit heavier, but now we will catch 1/4 of the fur and have 4x the competition in the same areas. FHA seems quite happy to auction many of my "early/blue/unprime" fisher off for top dollar every year. Overall this is a poor change for NY trappers that do anything in numbers. This only benefits the folks running a couple traps behind their house or on their way to work each day. Tough change for the ones that run a couple hundred miles and run 75+ traps a day. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out this fall.
