A few towns around here planted ash after they removed elms. Now they’re chopping down the ash trees because the dang bug…..lol
Problem is, woodpeckers on them trees is a good sign that it’s gotta be removed. They’re the early indicator. By the time you know it’s got EAB, it’s too late to save the tree.
I just did this friggin awareness course at work on these buggers.

Obviously my Apples trees must have EAB's because the woodpeckers are tearing them up! Oh, and the Cedar 1x12's on the deer shack must have them too. The Copenhagen lid "patches" class it up I believe.

I have nothing clever to put here.

The peckers show you where to look. Not too many ash where you see a pecker and there isn’t more borer sign after further inspection with binos.
Ash have what the borers want, and ours in North America don’t have the defence built up like the Asian ash has.
Peckers not so much, but all this talk about ash is making me randy again……

I saw a similar presentation recently about fish fixing the Asian carp problem. Alligator blue cats and one other fish population have been growing and each one of them were said to target the carpet at different life stages and the population was droping. I dont know it its true anymore than the birds reducing the ash bore but it could be. I just didnt look into it any further

If you keep mentioning "peckers", 160 is liable to get pretty randy, himself.

Ash trees in the city of Denver are inoculate against the emerald ash borer. Those trees sport a yellow ribbon that is printed with “I’m a smart ash”.
